New Metallica Album: St. Anger *UPDATE*
« Reply #25 on: March 13, 2003, 11:17:25 AM »
following up on MetalHead666's post, metallica is probably the most relevant band in whatever is left of rock music nowadays. will metallica's album debut at #1 upon it's release? yes! and when they go on tour this summer, will millions of fans be willing to shell out $75 a pop to see them play? absolutely! I've seen metallica play 4 times and each show I've had a great time. whether u like them or not, anyone who has seen them, will tell you they put on one of the best live shows, period. and I can practically guarantee that wherever metallica plays, every seat in the house is filled.

If there are any slipknot fans out there, you might want to concider Living Sacrifice's latest album. They are Christian, but that has nothing to do with their sound. If people cant accept a band because thay are christian(like people I know)is prety stupid. They think the band is stupid and assume the liyrics are duled because they have no cusing. I haven't heard eternal decision in a while but if you want oiginal christian music, POD has been around for over 10 years. And thay have their own sound. Disciple is awsome, so is blindside. And I have never heard anything like East West. Mordafide sound like its been done before. But there will never be a Christian band that will sound like the almighty Metallica.

In my opinion, Limb Bizkit and linkin parks presence on the bill will only help metallica look better.  Think about it, two talentless loser bands play before you and then you come on and play 2 hours of ripping technical metal, it only makes you look that much better.

Exactly. For all we know that could be why Metallica is touring with them.

I wanted to let you guys know that www.allmetallica.com has a new sample up. Well actually it's a collection of samples with Shadows of the Cross, Dead Kennedy Rolls, and some stuff heard on the Jump in the Studio (JITS) videos. Just click here and download the St. Anger Studio Mix sample. You can listen to some vocals that was from one of the JITS videos by skipping to 00:39. It's just a short clip but still nice. The most important part though is a new riff that starts at 1:09. Listen to that sick sh!t. This album is going to kick ass. By the way that riff is from one of the latest JITS videos in which Rob and the rest of the band were jammin on Battery, Master of Puppets, and New Sh!t (that's what it's called in the video).

By the way if you want to join JITS just click here and sign up. It's part of the official site and is more than worth the couple of minutes it takes to sign up. Lots of videos, pics, and other things from the studio (hence Jump in the Studio). By the way the video with the new riff is 4 horsemen if you want to watch it. Another good one to watch is the Truheeo video since they jam on Hit the Lights!

Thanks MetalHead666. Wanted to add that Lars had some interesting comments in a recent radio interview.

Lars said some song titles are:  St. Anger (of course), Frantic, All Within My Hands, and Dirty Windows. Also there will be 11 songs on the album all between 7 and 8 mins long. He also mentioned that one of the lyrics for St. Anger (the song) are, "'I hang myself, St. Anger around my neck." Something that I thought was very cool is that he said they are definitely considering having Pushead do the art for the album cover.

I'm just wondering. Has anybody gotten tickets to summer sanitaruim tour. There was also was a long gab between the black album and load, either five or six years. From what I've heard and from what Lars and James have said the album will sound very raw. Which hopefully is a good thing. If linkin park and limp bizkit were smart they would take notes on how Metallica plays live because there are not too many bands that are better live than Metallica.

yeah has anyoen noticed thi. there are a ton of christian bands...and they all get famous for soundign just liek osmeoen else. The only christian band that seems to me to be pretty cool is chavell. I wish most these bands would try to be original and devlop their own sound.

As opposed to what other musicians out there? There isn't much "originality" anywhere.  It sounds to me as if you are writing them off for being Christians; disguising your prejudice with a generic, and all encompassing excuse.

I'm really begging that this not be turned into a religious debate since I really don't want this thread to be closed. I don't like rap. Does that mean I have some sort of secret prejudice against black people?

I just found out some really cool news. Metallica will be including a DVD with St. Anger showing the band playing all the songs on St. Anger live in the studio. But that's not even the best part. The best part is that the DVD will be FREE. It will come FREE with the regular priced CD. Freaking cool. Click here to read the official article about it from www.metallica.com. Now just try and say that Metallica are a bunch of greedy ass holes.

Definately cool on Metallica's part.  And anyone who thinks they're a greedy bunch, obviously doesn't remember the 80's, where they sold oodles of records without releasing any singles or videos, until 'ONE'.  They got their respect the old fashioned way, through constant touring and hard work.  They release an album once every 3 or 4 years, so I think if they wanted to, they could release all kinds of filler in between, like 'live at donnington' or sh!t like that.  Like what Iron Maiden does, who I love also.

Metallica.com has released the official tacklisting.

The song titles are as follows:

    1. Frantic
    2. St. Anger
    3. Some Kind of Monster
    4. Dirty Window
    5. Invisible Kid
    6. My World
    7. Shoot Me Again
    8. Sweet Amber
    9. Unnamed Feeling
    10. Purify
    11. All Within My Hands
The album clocks in at just over 75 minutes. F#cking cool huh. If you want to read the official news update just click right here. Although the article says the album is finished it's not actually 100% done since the boys are in New York right now and are mastering the album. They will be done mastering it on Friday. From what the news update said at the end I hope we will be seeing album cover artwork soon.

LArs is quoted as saying the album is the "Loudest Fu*king Album ever"

also...

Metallica are featured in the June issue of Revolver magazine, with a write-up on St. Anger and the events surrounding the band in the past. Here is an excerpt from the article:

St. Anger - loud, complex and unremittingly brutal. The album is easily the bands most purely metalic offering since 1988's ...And Justice For All. Heavy riffs and wicked time changes abound and instruments jump out of the speakers with demonic fury. St. anger is merciless; just when you think a song is heading for an exit, another monster riff comes along and knocks you on your ass!

This *MIGHT* be the real artwork, or at least new logo for the new album. Even if not, it still looks cool to me. Someone posted it on Metallica.com's board, saying this is from the official German Metallica site - click http://www.st-anger.de/_img/logo.jpg. here to see it.

Yeah, it's kind of like a combo of the old and new logo. It's pretty cool actually. It's better than the plain and simplified Load era logo any way.

Holy crap Metallica has released the cover art and new logo for St. Anger. The logo that Brandogg gave a link to is in fact the new logo. The art shows a fist very similar to the fist that held the hammer in the ...And Justice For All booklet. Click here and check it out for yourself. I must admit it's different and I'll have to get used to it but at least it isn't semen and blood like on the Load covers. I have to say when I read that Pushead would be doing the cover art I was concerned he would do a skull. I didn't want that since it's such a worn out cliché so I'm happy it's not a skull at least.

Metallica.com has released info about the first music video for St. Anger. The video will be for the song St. Anger and filming for it will take place in San Quentin State Prison. Click here do get the full details. I can't say I'm too happy about the type of scum that get into San Quentin being allowed to hear St. Anger before the rest of us but oh well.

That commercial on MTV for the icon show on the 6th, got me hyped up.  It plays old Metallica, and a collage of people with Metallica cds...its really well done.  Even though its MTV.  I cant wait for this cd to come out!

I agree with the omen, that is a great spot for the metallica icon show. excellent choice using "damage inc" as the background track. the artist I'm most looking forward to seeing on the icon show is avril lavigne, anyone else?

I'm just hoping Linkin Park doesn't butcher any songs.  ..and Avril lavigne...i wish she would just 'disappear'....Why not have Korn do a song?  They usually do a cover song in concert anyway...I know they did a great version of 'Disposable heroes' last time I saw them..

korn is doing a song, but I doubt it will be "disposable heroes" unless they find a way to trim it down. it would be awesome if someone covers "motorbreath" but I don't think that's likely.

Listening to '...and justice for all' today....man I miss these guys

Thats cool Korn is doing a song.  I usually dont like 'new' metal, but they kind of started that sound, so i've come to appreciate them a lot.  I hope they do 'Hit the lights'.  But another song they did live was 'the thing that should not be', very briefly though.  Everytime i've seen them they've done at least one Metallica song.
