500 cars and online play, I'm SO there.

I hope they'll allow custom soundtracks, and maybe fix a couple goofy mistakes from GT3 (needs more auto-save and proportional music volume adjustment). Custom decals would be cool. And so would be grabbing memory card data from GT3.

Custom decals like Fujifilm tofood shop for 86 toronto am i rite/

I'm hoping it has more than just the mark four supra in it, GT2 had the mk3 which was pretty rad, but I want more damn it. OH and a better car upgrade system perhaps, instead of just 'generic turbo upgrade' you could chose from different brands like Garret or what not.

Also requesting Toyota Cressida be available.

After F-Zero GX got a slammin' for lack of weapons, there had better be some in GT4, or I might go Tommy Tallarico on you all and say GT4 needs more nudity and peeing and dog poop.

HA HA HA!  Ain't it the truth...recently I saw Electric Playground for the first time in a couple of years, it was the E3 episode, and now I remember why I quit watching in the first place.  Tommy still licks Sony's boots, and the other guy seems to have sold his soul to Microsoft.  They didn't have one thing to say about Nintendo...but they mentioned every single other thing on the floor. *puke*

Ummm...as for Gran Turismo 4, I would be very interested in playing it if I had a PS2, but I don't.  Great, now I really want to play some racing games!  I should spend less time posting and more time playing!
That's my opinion, not yours.

In addition to the all new photo mode, Yamauchi has confirmed that GT 4 will feature drift racing, and that flea market, travel agent, and bank modes are in the works- though when asked to expand, all he said was "use your imagination"  -(taken straight from the latest EGM).

How much new stuff is being added to Gran Turismo 4? I'm really interesteed in getting it, but if there's not a whole lot of new stuff I'll just get Gran Turismo 3 for $20 since it's a Greatest Hits title.

It's defenitely worth the extra 30 than getting GT 3.  If only just for all the new tracks and cars.  GT 3 had about 20% of the cars that GT 4 will have.  Then you add in the online play, all the new licensed (much better compared to other games licensed choices) music, atleast 6 new modes (drift, photo, flea market, bank, and travel agent).  Better graphics, better physics, etc.  And Polyphony has said they're interested in utilizing the PS2 harddrive, so getting new car downloads or tracks and more wouldn't be out of the question.  There's probably alot more too, thats just off the top of my head.

Well, the internet and downloadables don't mean much to me since I don't have a hard drive or modem for my PS2, but the rest certainly sounds worth it.

Ugh, add another game I want this year, I need some money.

hehe I know what you mean, theres so many great games slated for fall this year it's going to be tough to have enough money or time to play them all.  A person could fill up all of 2005 with just the AAA games he gets at the end of this year lol, and now there's the new portables

Hot. Is there some all encompassing car list some place? I'm hoping a good number of Toyotas make it in, old and new, cars like the Mk3 Supra (it was in GT2), old and new Soarer, Cressida (lawl, drifto barge), and other things I guess. Question, is / will the PS2 HDD be sold seperatly, or does it exclusivly come with FFXI?

A flea market? That's rad burgers. I hope you can haggle old Japanese men. "I'll give you three yen for that stapler, it'll look good in my opponents face"

I'm really looking forward to the rally type tracks in GT4. They were my favorite bits in GT3. Stuff those Colin McGrey Face Rally games, GT3 did it better.

Hm, reminds me: Does GT4 include tanking? So you can define pit stop strategies like in Formula 1 games?

I'm not familiar with the term tanking in regards to pit stops, you'll have to explain it.  If it has something to do with getting the car fueled up with gas I doubt that's in the game because they probably didn't want to bother with all the different car's gas tank sizes, and how much miles per gallon each car gets in addition to how the miles per gallon fluctuates with different race performance through the race.  That would be a helluva lot of work and probably the only way they would include it, so maybe in GT 5?  I am almost 100% positive though that pit stops this year will actually have pit crews instead of nothing.

Hm, english doesn't really have a nice convenient verb for filling up the gas tank- I'm going to start saying "tanking", maybe it'll catch on.

So is german your first language, KDR?

Well, if it's basically just knowing all numbers, it wouldn't be hard to implement, especially for those nuts Polyapheopanponay. But you go through tires faster than fuel anyway, (right?), so wouldn't it be a non-issue?

Well theres over 500 cars in the game, so probably atleast half of those cars have different gas tank sizes.  Then just about every car in the game will have different miles per gallon performance.  Then depending on how a player races (different racing style (ex. drift, brake early, brake late, etc), how many times a player goes off course or crashes, how the tires are affecting the cars miles per gallon, how drifting saves miles per gallon.  All that would be tons of mathematical equations and programming.

As for going through tires faster than fuel, yes that's true.  But refueling wouldn't be a non issue because you'd have to pit in at different points for both tires and fuel.  For example in a 20 lap race you might have to pit in every 3-8 laps for tires (depending on the type of tires you use), and maybe once for fuel.  If you're lucky you could get that fuel on the 2nd pit in for tires, but it would also tack extra time on your pit time.  Then theres the 30 & 50 lap races, and finally the endurance races of upto 250 laps or more which would both result in having to pit in at separate times for tires and refueling.

I don't think anyone knows how a crash affects a real car's tank filling, especially since few cars still drive after a crash...

joe: Fuel also affects the weight of the car which is why in Formula 1 there are different strategies regarding your tank filling, some use a full tank and stop only once, most use two stops and less tank filling for better accelleration. Though I don't know how dramatic that effect would be on the races GT4 simulates, whatever those may be (I don't know any car racing champonships besides Formula 1 and DTM). I'd guess the cars it uses weight a lot more than the Formula 1 cars...
