Can someone explain to me the apparent greatness of Mario Kart?  I mean, I know it's a enjoyable game, but it always struck me as just as an entertaining little racing spin-off, not an absolutely brilliant game.. but then, maybe it's just that I'm not a huge racing fan.

Really? Dengeki have reviewed Mario Kart Double Dash? How did that fly past me? How could i not know that?

Anyway, i predict Mario Kart Double Dash will be my favourite game of all time. Im not really a fan of Mario Kart 64, but from what ive seen and heard of this game it sounds freaking unbelievably awesome. And guess what else is awesome? The Australian release date. NOVEMBER 14.

Yes, I think you need 4 Cubes with broadband adapters to play 16-player LAN...

I think it looks really cool, although the 2 character thing is sort of iffy for me. I hope they include one of the original mario kart games as an unlockable, it's the best Mario spinoff IMO.

I like the 2 characters-per-kart thing, it looks like it will add some strategy to the game but will still retain the same "Mario Kart" feel. People are always complaining when Nintendo makes sequels with no new ideas, yet the same thing happens when they do innovate (cel-shading in Zelda, 1st person view in Metroid, water pack in Mario, etc.).

Also I found a really good site about MK DD, it has a lot of information that I hadn't seen before. Link

That's probably because aside from Metroid, none of those changes are extremely innovative.  Cel-shading is a graphics only change, the water pack is little more than a few extra powers, and character-switching in Mario Kart seems like a minor weapons dynamic edition.

First of all, it's "toon shading."  Cel-shading = 2d with big black outlines in my book...Maybe I'm the only one who gets really deep into my games, but WW's graphics style made a whole new gameplay experience for me...

Mario Kart's two-character setup allows more strategy...Each character has unique items that only they can use.  This basically allows you to choose your set of weapons before going into battle, which imo, is really cool.

i agree i loved walking around in zelda just looking at the scenery i've never really done that before, except perhaps in ocarina of time.

Mario Kart looks fantastic, it'll be great to be able to play again seeing as my mate has my MK64.

I was going to say pretty much what Bill said, with the addition that the water pack completely changed the feel of Mario for me. You no longer had to time jumps perfectly, you could hover, which I feel made a huge difference. That's not to say it was a change for the worse though.

Cube-Europe gave Mario Kart 9.0/10, said there wasen't enough new stuff and fans of SNES Mario kart might be disappointed and those who played previous ones might lose interest sooner than in 64.
