Topic: Buying Playstation parts?

I just got a N64, NES and Playstation (the original, not PS1 or Playstation 2). Everything works except that the Playstation is missing the video cable and the hub is about to break. I live in southern California, where should I buy from? Most of the time this wouldn't be a problem except that I have never fixed a Playstation. Thanks for the help!

Does your PlayStation have direct red/white/yellow output ports on the back of the unit, or is it one of those "newer old non-PSone" units, made after they removed those ports?

Because if it has those red/white/yellow outputs, then you can get really cheap cables for that at just about any electronics store (they don't even have to be the right colors, as long as you don't get them confused).

And what do you mean by "the hub is about to break"? I'm not sure which part you mean.

And I know nothing about California myself, but a good place to look for spare cables online is www.ebay.com

No, it only has the special Playstation plug. No RCA jacks.

Oh, you're right, I got the name mixed up. The CD spindle is about to break. As in the part that you put the disk on. I have had 2 of these break on me, but never bothered to replace them.

I am looking for a web site that will ship to the west coast for cheap. The web sites I have found are based out of Japan or some other place that will cost way too much to ship from.

Actually, it just looks like I've just never heard the term before. Everyone on eBay seems to call it a "spindle hub".

Anyways, it looks like you can get the spindle for $1-2 (search for playstation -ps2 and spindle or hub). If you find an American seller that's not trying to majorly hose you for shipping, it should be pretty good.

And the Stereo AV Cable looks to be less than $5 (it works on the PSX and PS2, so just search playstation and cable). You probably want the Stereo AV Cable, not the RF Switch or S-video or Component Cable, right? If you're lucky, you might get both the cable and the spindle from the same seller, and save money on the shipping.

I'd go with eBay myself, as I don't think any website could get much cheaper in these areas, but that's just me.

And I don't know anything about actually changing the spindle, but it should come with instructions, and there's gotta be and FAQ or two about it (just in case the instructions are Japanese or something) kicking around on the internet.

But, maybe someone else knows of a good website. Or Californian store. Anyone?

I would try checking a Gamestop, Games For Less, or GameSquare, or getting a new one at a swap meet.
