I loved the throwbacks in Wind Waker.
YES! The underwater Hyrule castle scene was the highlight for me, particularly the jaw-dropping moment of seeing the statue of the Hero of Time

Mouse: I meant to refer to MM, not the Wind Waker, as the strange relationship with OoT. Whoops.

Ah, well then that makes sense.

Anyway, that moment when you first step foot in Hyrule and the Temple of Time was one of the most incredible moments in a videogame ever- the only scene I think can surpass it is the ending to Ico.

Well to be honest, I was basing all of the MM stuff off of what I saw a friend do...I can't bring myself to complete a timed Zelda game...

While seeing Hyrule was an amazing experience, I also awed at seeing the Forest Haven for the first time...To this day I love walking around in there... <3 forests

I think you people speculate too much!

Nintendo has said they already have a quest for the game, but do you get any answers now? No, you get the answers when the game is ready for the showfloor demo at next years E3 show!

I just think this debate is going too far. Too much squabbling back and forth.

All I do now is look every week for news from Nintendo, and apart from that try to concentrate on all the beautifull things that I will see in the life right now and of course when the new Zelda with our long sought realistic graphics comes out!

I can´t stand futile speculation, such as what presents I get for Christmas. They remain the same nomatter what I think they will be, same with the new Zelda! Let the creators do the job, and discuss it when you´ve got a copy of it in your hands!
Nintendo is the originator of videogame innovation! The Great Mover of the Industry. Past, present and future. Rightfully, the King of Videogaming!

WHAT?!? A self-professed Zelda fan hasn't beaten Majora's Mask?!? This is a travesty! You have to beat Majora's Mask before I even consider your opinions on Zelda worthwhile, Bill. And you go around saying other people aren't true Zelda fans.

If you have to, use the Backwards Song of Time (makes time go 3 times slower).

I hope I'm not too late to join the goodness.

Basically multiple orgasms yadda yadda to my actual contribution to this thread...

What I'm still missing from the Legend of Zelda storyline is how Gannondorf became Ganon. Yes I know he was present in OoT, but he wasn't permanently transformed to the pig-like Ganon. And I think, with the spooky atmosphere present in this future game, that it's the perfect opportunity to develop his metamorphosis.

What I'm thinking is that his thirst for the two remaining triforces will make him become schizofrenic. The voice in his head demands him to do evil deeds, to destroy his homeplace Gerudo. He doesn't want to, because he still has some human emotions (as described in The Wind Waker as 'envy'). He goes mad and he unleashes his madness upon Hyrule. He tries hard to resist the process of becoming true evil incarnated. But in the end he knows it's inevitable and he slowly succumbs to the maddening voice in his head and finally transforms into Ganon. Then Link will know this is going to be his most fiercesome battle ever as he sees Ganon towering above him. One of the greatest battles of all time will ensue, the outcome of this battle between good and evil will change the world forever. Who will be victorious?

Something similar to this and I can die a happy man.

"What I'm still missing from the Legend of Zelda storyline is how Gannondorf became Ganon."

Originally I assumed that he made the transformation into Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time when he was trapped in the sacred realm which I assumed was the same as the Golden Land in A Link to the Past.  Then Nintendo screwed it all up by having him appear as Ganondorf in a second game.  D'oh!  The origin is decribed in LttP.  He was a thief who travelled to the Golden Land in search of the Triforce and was sealed their by the elders (I think).  He's a pig creature because the Golden Land (or dark world if you prefer) transforms everyone unless they hold the moon pearl.

Though the way Nintendo seems to have no problem with creating huge inconsistencies with the Zelda plot line (or any of their plot lines for that matter) I wouldn't be surprised if they started acting like Ganon and Ganondorf are two different guys.  They probably wouldn't even notice they changed something.

I'm more than half-way through the game, Mousie, but I just don't feel like finishing it...It's not that I'm not able to complete the game in the time given, but the fact that I'm being timed in a game that is all about taking your time...

Don't be basing my Zelda status on a timed sidestory...

Oh, and about the Ganondorf problem...It's one of the most difficult to answer, and it might be best to just ignore it...However, it's my belief that Ganondorf becomes Ganon when he has full control of the Triforce...In Wind Waker, he's not given the chance to use it thanks to the King using it's power before he... (Oh, and remember Ian, when you leave the Sacred Realm/Golden Land you become your usual self, so that could be an explanation of Ganondorf becoming himself again in WW)

That's odd, I've never read that before in the game. When does it describe the transformation? *plays ALttP again*

And that doesn't explain why he's a pig-like creature in the first Zelda's where there wasn't a Golden Land. This Legend of Zelda timeline confuses me greatly.

Ganon reverted back to Ganondorf at the end of Ocarina of Time- you see him as such while he's being banished to the Dark Realm and putting a curse on Link.

Well, technically, Ganondorf died. Link kills him at the top of the fortress in Ocarina of Time...

But he had the Triforce of Power, which apparently grants the user some sort of immortality because he came back to life as Ganon. It seems that he took on the shape of Ganon because that is what was in his heart (like remember in LttP, people in the game tell you that if you go to the dark world without a moon pearl you will turn into whatever is in your heart....Link turns into a pink bunny...). Remember at the end of Ocarina of Time Link and Zelda couldn't kill Ganon....at the very end Link impales the Master Sword straight into Ganon's brain...but Ganon still doesn't die, and the Sages have to imprison him to the Golden realm.

Now, WW takes place a couple of centuries later right? Ganon breaks out of the golden realm...but he's now back to his Gerudo self. Obviously this is not explained, but I think the solution is obvious. He can use the Triforce of Power to turn back to his human self. I mean, it should be possible right? The Triforce of Power is a powerful magic artifact...it is the embodiment of the power of a goddess. So I think it's fair to assume that it can easily turn Ganon into Ganondorf and vice versa.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Ganon did revert back to human form right when he was being banished...I think he did that voluntarily so he could curse Link and his descendents. I still think that his precious allows him the change back and forth at will....or maybe under certain conditions. Besides, Zelda can use her Triforce to change into sheik (who was a male in Ocarina of Time...but for some reason a boobless female in Smash Bros...In the smash bros melee manual it calls sheik a she, and also in the trophy screens...and shieks voice sounds like a girl trying to be a guy...but if you look at sheik's model it looks like a sort of skinny but muscular guy...but without boobs....but then again also without that other thing that guys have... o_O ...anyway in OoT i personally think it's quite obvious that Shiek is a male, even though he still has some traces of feminity like zelda's eyes...although you wouldn't know unless you knew that was Zelda...) So anyway....

Now, enough bickering about the pointless story things...Lets talk about what makes Zelda great, the gameplay.

And since we are on the topic of triumph forks, lets start with that. We already know that Ganon(dorf) can use the triforce of power for all sorts of misdeeds like calling a dark army to his control and using dark magic and fun stuff like that. And Zelda and Shiek can obviously make good use of the Triforce of Wisdom...Zelda uses it to turn into Shiek, and magically open doors, and hold down Ganon so link can slice him up...not to mention all that Smash Bros. magic.

But what about link and his triforce? Why doesn't he get any special powers??? You could say it gives him super strength because well, by the time you have lots of hearts you can basically take a dozen times more damage that any other human. But still....I think link needs to develop some triforce powers in the next game. Maybe they could be magic powers...(like the medallions in LttP and the crystals in OoT)...or they could be instrinsic powers...like the force abilities in the Jedi Knight games...temporary super speed to deal with a roomful of enemies or something...I'm sure they could think of much more original powers.

Also, they need more moves in this game...more like the swordfighting movesets in Soul Calibur, not just the standard left slash, right slash, stab, and chop, of OoT/MM/WW.

Also it would be nice to be able to get some weapons that aren't swords. Maybe a spear? Throw it at an enemy and impale him, then finish everyone else off with dual daggers, then go pick up your spear again...Actually this is already in WW, but it's all clunky and unrefined. In the new game you should be able to pick up an enemy weapon and use it just like your own (not just the 2 moves from wind waker: attack and thrown). You should also be able to jump attack and parry with them... these moves use the A button but in WW pressing a would throw the weapon. Pressing R would drop it, disabling blocking (with either your shield or the weapon itself). They should make dropping and throwing done by, say, holding R and then pressing A...

He gets what the Triforce of Courage gives him, Courage...No special powers, just courage...But it's that courage that allows him to face his destiny...(Triforce powers...lol)

But expect attacks/enemy weapon attacks to become more indepth in the next game...

It's like you can time travel, Bill.

You'd have to realize this is Zelda, Gamefreak, and not Soul Calibur or whatever. Making the gameplay different and fresh is one thing, but making it a combo-fest like Ninja Gaiden is a bit over the top in my opinion. I'm glad they're going back to the top-down view, oldskool style. There could be camera issues along the way, but I'm sure Nintendo will solve it brilliantly as always.

IGN has said that even without a shield, Link can block incoming fire with his sword and flick it away. That's sound's awesome, plus using the sword while on horseback.

There will most likely be more moves for link, atleast he's wearing armor, a chain-link mail.

I like to see more magical items in this games kinda like alttp had.

The forests look vast and pretty, I wonder how many towns, npcs, taverns etc. will be in the game?

I know this is Zelda...and I'm not saying make it a combo fest. Just because you can do combos doesn't mean they will hit. Because the enemies will block, you know

Like Miyamoto said, this is adult Link, and they will evolve the gameplay to match that. And the combat system is part of the gameplay. And it really does not an upgrade because apart from Advent. of Link there has only been to combat systems...the top down style and the OoT 3D style.

The OoT combat needs to evolve....Besides, the N64 couldn't handle that many enemies. The most Stalfos you'd fight at once was 3. In WW with the GCN's power you have LttP amounts of enemies. Remember when you first pulled the Master Sword? A castle full of Moblins and Darknuts. OoT's system is good for one on one fights...but it looks like this new game will have Link partaking in 25 on 1 fragfests....and you've got to keep the combat system intuitive and up to date with that. Like the ability to target more than one enemy.

You could easily target say...3 enemies. Link would be actually directly tracking one, but would still note the location of the other 2 (would tie in great with eye tracking)...so if there happened to be an instanct where to enemies are close together Link could attack both, etc...

I wonder if there will be any other animals for Link to right?...What about getting some sort of Pegasus or Gryphon or something later on...flying around Hyrule would be Pimp.

Attack both... with what?
It sounds like you're looking for a way to quickly switch targets (I happen to use the L-trigger click for such things in WW.... and the short spin attack) or you're expecting a Jet Li jumping SPLIT KICK.

Gamefreak: I'd apply the "Birdo explaination" to Shiek (a sheik is something different).
Additional powers from the Triforce? Hell yeah, imagine Link running into battle, shouting "Henshin a Go Go, Baby!"

I don't think we need a more complicated battle system. Perhaps make it more important (currently it's just buttonmash + counter), but not more complicated.

I'd like to see different kinds of weapons that you can holster, so when first approaching you throw a javelin into the enemy group, pull out a halberd to keep them at distance and only once they're really close draw your sword to get down to business.

How about a system that lets you individually target body parts, a la Eternal Darkness?  Naturally you wouldn't cleave their head off or anything, but it would put some great strategy into the combat system -- you could attack their weapon arm to disarm them, attack their head to stun them, etc.  It would work great with Zelda's targeting system.

I have a prob swallowing the timed nature of MM.  I have the game and tried playin it but I was never fond of the feature of being timed.  I love the game, the style and everything but being time in a zelda game never fell well with me.  I always loved to take my time and just wander around the land as I pleased.  Even with the songs to turn back time and whatnot, it just got annoyin at times to have to travel across some locations again cuase I needed to turn back time.  Thats just me though.  I still have the game cuase I like to collect them lol.  I'll see if I give it a shot some other time.
