Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
« on: May 06, 2004, 03:51:32 PM »
Hours and hours are melting away while playing HM: AWL.  Picking a wife, milking the cow, taking care of the crops, and feeding the dog so he will keep the stinky old man away is loads of fun!  Im in the first year so far still and close to getting Celia to be my wife!
Anyone else playing this amazing farming RPG game?

P.S. See ya at Blue's Bar!

Ugh, you could stand that game? I mean, I loved the GB versions, but the GC one seems like they added a lot of unneeded complexity to the game, enough to kill it for me. The voice-bits are annoying, the manual waaaay too thin and the graphics and PAL conversion atrocious, as well.

PAL borders and terrible manual aside, I'm still addicted to its MAGICAL charms. Even though I'm trying to balance a zillion games at once (Including Zillion on Master System).

Heck yeah, I'm still working on my review... I'm in year 5, and I estimate that I've put in at least 70 hours at this point.

KDR:  Voice bits?  Are we talking about the same game?  There's no voice in the US version.  And although the graphics aren't technically astounding, I think it's gorgeous and really like the character designs.

The only 'voice bits' I've heard are when you approach someone and they go "TEE HEE!" or "HEY YO" or make a stupid little noise for no reason.

"Hey how ya goin?"

Oh...well if that's all we're talking about, I'm rather pleased.  Rock and Gustafa's voices are especially cool.

I love this game as well. I just starterd again after getting into my second year when I found my friend had earned 50k in his first year. I must have screwed up really bad. It's an awsome game thoug, and I'm playing it even though I have one day to write a 1500 word essay

Yeah, I just made it to the fall season now and im poor, poor, and poor.  But then again, I just bought a pond and 2 chickens, along with a BULK supply of bird feed.  I gotta get a star cow soon before ol' Bessie gets past 40 days.  Also, I always get B grade crops, any ideas?

I picked this game up at EB a few weeks ago, and boy did I get a steal!  However, I have yet to play it because I'm going to wait until I have enough time to truly appreciate the game.

We have a thread in Gameplay Help if you're interested in advice.

I'd say don't worry too much about money.  It's sparse to start, but you really start making tons of money once you get some equipment.

You raise your crop levels with fertilizer: 4 bags to raise a crop one level, and 30 to raise a tree one level.  You'll be better off waiting until you have a seed maker to mess with crops much, since it lets you multiply your A and S crops.

This game dissapointed me.  My money supply is dwindling and i decided to buy one game either harvest moon or pokemon colosseum.  I picked Harvest Moon (the 40$ price tag had a role in the decision) i played it for the first year and loved it.  Now everything i do seems like tedious workwith little reward.  Your wife and son do almost nothing to start with, though im sure your son will be helpful later. I really dont need anymore animals and the extra buldings seem useless, chickens and ducks take too much time to take care of.  I liked Animal Crossing and was sure this would be better, but AC was much deeper with way more stuff at a higher pace, Harvest Moon can not compare in my opinion.

I really want this game after playing STH and FOMT but to be honest it doesnt seem like much has changed.

I mean the WHOLE game should be revamped. The feeding to the crop all need to become more complex and courting a lady should be more then just giving her daisys.

I know I shouldnt pass judgement till I play the game but please do mistake me If Im wrong. I know minor changes have been made but any HUGE ones ? Anything to make this game worth my money?
