Capcom has officially announced VJ2 for GCN, and PS2.

Quote

Besides having 40 new types of enemies, the sequel will also span several new environments, including a jungle, underground ruins, ancient Japan, snowy mountains and outer space. Joe's Six Machine will get new transformational powers that will let it turn into a racer, cannon, drill or submarine during different stages of the game. The caped hero will also receive a new VFX power, "Replay," which will let him triple the effect of attacks or power-ups.

There's a few screenshots there too. Interesting VJ2 logo. I'm looking forward to this game!

I just hope the GameCube version isn't graphically dumbed down as a result of having to develop a PS2 version as well...

Sounds Awsome.

Professional unlike DMC 2 the same devolopment team from the original will be devoloping VJ2.

I am really intrigued by this answer by Atsushi Inaba.

GS: How is the gameplay changing in VJ2?

AI: The addition of Silvia in co-op mode has added a lot of depth. You thought you could do crazy combos in Viewtiful Joe; wait till you try a little simultaneous VJ action!

and this one

GameSpot: How pleased were you with how the original game turned out?

Atsushi Inaba: I am 100 percent, completely satisfied.

GS: How did feedback to the original game influence work on the sequel?

AI: We heard the game was a bit difficult for casual gamers, so we have made it more accessible to them while still making it challenging enough for hard-core gamers that liked the difficulty of the original.

Im happy that they're toning the difficulty a little bit. It will now appeal to more people hopefully.

Yeah. I don't want to see a sequel that looks worse than the original because old grey ma can't keep up. =/

The rumor going around is that the PS2 version will have VJ1 on the same disc. If thats true I hope that the GCN version has something exclusive otherwise the PS2 version is going to clobber the GCN version big time sales wise.

Yoshi Island transformations are awsome. My memories are flooding back, oh how I touched fuzzy

A sequel really isn't supprising, considering all the positive press the origianal got. Does anyone know how well it sold?

I second the motion that if VJ2 doesn't look as good as VJ1, we should smack the responsible suits a good one.
Fortunately, they have lots of original GC-quality work and shaders already lying around, which means they could reuse those parts at least for the Cube version and thus make sure it doesn't look worse. (in fact I think the PS2 should be capable of everything shown in VJ1 except the special effects, which shouldn't be that hard to dumb down for the PS2 version) Coop sounds intriguing, it would put VJ on par with old classic sidescrollers, just with better graphics and really awesome gameplay. I hope this game sells and people realize that 2d is cooler than 3d.

Ehhh.....I really didn't like the first VJ1. I thought it'd be real cool, judging by the appearance and the hype it seemed to be getting everywhere. I rented it and just really didn't like the whole thing.

So, I highly doubt that VJ2 will be happening for me.

i'm interested in how they're going to do co-op.  when joe uses mach speed is silvia forced to, also?  what happens if joe reverts back to his normal self and then silvia slows down time?

Odds are no matter what the PS2 version is going to clobber the Cube version.  The bigger userbase alone should see to that.  If the PS2 version doesn't sell better then I'm guessing it will be because PS2 fans don't "get it" in which case it will bomb.

I have no problem with the original game being ported to the PS2 but it would really suck if it came included with the PS2 version of VJ2 and the price was the same as the Cube version.  They should get to play it but they shouldn't get to play it for free.

Ian, I believe Viewtiful Joe sold about 200,000 on the GCN in the states. There is already a fanbase there the PS2 doesn't have right away. I think VJ2 will end up like Ico or Mark of Kri on PS2, since it is very different from mainstream games that do well on PS2, and that alone might make it sell more on GameCube. I can't blame Capcom for putting it on PS2, but it should be developed for GameCube, and then ported to PS2. If they don't at least reward GameCube owners in this way, then that would seriously not be cool.

That rumor is false according to this link. VJ2
It says that the PS2 port of the first game will be made in Japan only, with Dante as a bonus. This still doesn't clear up whether the game will be made for PS2 first, but I think the Viewtiful Team would choose GameCube, since it is easy to develop for.

I think that the VJ series makes a perfect fit in the Nintendo collection, and that Nintendo should try to get a third game made of it for N5.

I agree. Nintendo should partner with Capcom for the N5 launch since Capcom has done so much for the GameCube library.

Anyone see the artwork? Dante is there from DMC. I never really thought of it but he will fit really well in this game.

Anyway me and my brother are so pshyced about this game. Its the only game that me and him BOTH truly ever want. ( He has different tastes, Hes more into GTA and Gran Turismo).

the dante artwork is for the ps2 version of vj1 that will be released in japan.  he is going to be an additional extra character.  as far as i know, no playable characters have been confirmed for vj2 except joe and silvia.

Well, looks like my controller will be beat even more.  I do so love side scrolling platformers/beat-em-ups.  VJ reminded me a bit of Comix Zone.  Mmm, all the nestalgia.

Actually I just read from GCadvanced that Famitsu confirmed Dante as a playable charecter.

Edit I believe your right Kingvudu. Dante and apparently Trish are gonna be extras in the PS2 version. BUT I still believe that Dante will be in VJ2.( hopefully)

Yoshi should be the GameCube's extra character. Joe could use his sex machine to transform into a car, and Yoshi could Yoshi up the joint by transforming into his big red nose car-self. Then they could race around the world using MACH SPEED.
