After knowing about the game for a good year, finally there's official confirmation...

I really hope they get rid of the buddy system, and just make it like M&L

Crap! Okay that might seem like a weird comment for what is for the most part good news but hear me out. I was hoping for one of two possibilities. Either Nintendo would go with the formula of having a different developer for each Mario RPG like they had done so far (Square, Intelligent Systems, Alpha Dream) OR they would have Square return to the series that they started. If any developer should be making more than one Mario RPG it should be Square. Odds are that if the N64 wasn't cartridge based Square would have made the next Mario RPG and would have made ALL of them up to this point. As good of a developer Intelligent Systems is they were a replacement and thus if the original developer is available (and in theory they are) I want to see the originals continue the series.

Now Paper Mario was a great game and Paper Mario 2 surely will be as well but in my opinion it's not as good as Super Mario RPG and it's irritating that Nintendo is going forward with what I consider the "inferior" design. Nintendo seems to ALWAYS go with the most recent design for their games regardless of which one is more popular. Since DKC Donkey Kong has always had his Rare look, Yoshi has maintained the Yoshi's Story look (for reasons I don't understand since Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World are obviously more popular games), and I'm worried of Zelda retaining the Wind Waker look (though they seem to change Zelda up a little bit every gen). It's like if Nintendo changes something on you and you don't like it, TOUGH, because they're keeping it.

For comparisons sake imagine that Rare was bought by Electronic Arts but the next James Bond game went to another developer.

We've known about the game for a good year, so it should have been expected that the name "Paper Mario 2" would assume a direct sequel(in terms of story and in design) ^_^

It also gives IS something to do, considering this is their first GC title...

Gotta love it. The first Paper Mario was a blast, and if they can fix up the difficulty (a bit easy near the end), and the length (not too short, but not your typical RPG length), then it'll be a great game. I have confidence that they'll live up to the original, even surpass it.

Doesnt japan have a "Wars" game on every Nintendo System? If so has anyone heard of a "Wars" game for GCN?

Yes a mario RPG sequel would be great. The two best game developers of all time nintendo and square join the same team once again. It would have geno and malo back in at least for a cameo. And maybe incorporate some fianl fantasy characters like kingdom hearts. But alas nintendo show intelligence systems.

It's not a good game. It is a GREAT game. All Mario RPGs are. I haven't played the original in a long time though. I need an SNES *coughoraconvenientGBAportcough*.

I'm gonna disagree heartily with Ian and say that Square should keep their glad hands off Mario. I found Alpha Dream's and Intelligent System's Mario Action-Platformer-RPGs to be FAR superior to Square's. Definitely Alpha Dream's.

You're right. I shouldn't have assumed that Paper Mario 2 will be a great game as well.

i was hoping for ALPHA DREAM but hey INTELLIGENT SYSTEM will do. they are pretty good development group. comon, ADVANCE WARS, FIRE EMBLEM and PAPER MARIO in their resume, how can you go wrong with that.

SQUARE??? meh, i hate SQUARE after playing CRYSTAL CHRONICLES. how in the world did the last boss battle last almost 2 hours to beat. the first boss was pretty simple up until in the 3rd form... then this stupid RAEM guy comes in and no save point in between whos freakin' hit (the real boss) takes 1/4 of my life each time and his crewny takes 2 hearts for one hit and i only have 7 hearts in all with a crappy weapon, armour and artifacts... nice going SQUARE no balance at all.

Since I skipped the N64 generation I have no idea what PM is like, but hell, Mario&Luigi was godlike, so this should be good, too. And if all fails we still got Mario vs. Donkey Kong.
