Question about the Freeloader.
« on: March 23, 2004, 07:20:54 PM »
Hi,

I was wondering if PAL software will look and sound right on an american tv and gamecube? I checked pgc's info and found this:

PAL software running on US or JPN hardware will reportedly run at 50Hz, rather than the NTSC standard of 60Hz.

but I don't know what that means..

Thanks.

First off, PAL software won't play on a NTSC Gamecube. It just won't because of regional lockouts.

The difference in hertz (Hz) is just the frequency at which the image on screen is changed - the higher the number, the smoother the visuals.

I just got a Freeloader yesterday - no problems so far!  The Japanese game I got (Mobile Suit Gundam: Senshitachi no Kiseki) looks and sounds great.

heh, shifty's living up to his title: The NEW forum DRUNK!
nah, just kidding..

the reason i ask about pal games specifically is i know pc monitors can handle different refresh rates (60hz, 90hz, etc.), and some tv's can, but i was wondering if there are problems with sound; i.e. will voices sound higher or lower than they should?

If it runs at the PAL frequency of 50Hz (which I'm assuming it does) then it isn't going to be vry playable. Screen will be black and white most likely with picture jumping and who knows what else.  Not fun at all.

Except if your TV is multiformat, which almost every TV I see in stores is.
