Atari really need to get their act together..
« on: February 05, 2004, 04:26:43 PM »
Wellity, wellity, wellity..

Headed on in to EB today to pick up my precious copy of Sonic Heroes. "Oh, it seems it's not coming out today" the dude behind the counter proclaims. "I don't know what the hell's going on with it" he continues. That's just great. I rang up EB yesterday just to make sure, and they said yes, it was still on track for a release, today. Gah, I ask him if he could ring me on my mobile in case they do get it in, and I leave.

Off to The Games Wizards just to check. "No, Atari can't give us a confirmed date anymore. We might get it in next week or something" the girl tells me while pretending to look busy on the computer. Same story at another EB I went to, they tell me it might be released next week.

What the hell is wrong with Atari? They can release a bajillion copies of rubbish like Terminator 3, Enter the Matrix and Test Drive Overdrive on time, yet when it comes to games people actually want to play, they stuff it all up.

"Phantasy Star Online? Let's throw three copies in Australia, sounds like a plan. Hey, lets not release the Xbox version at all. Skies of Arcadia, who the hell wants to play that game? Lets get a few thousand more copies of Yu-Gi-Oh Color Book for GBC on the shelves. Guilty Gear X? Nobody likes that game, we know. Four copies."

God knows what the Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes release will be like. They can't even get the title right on their website, listing it as Metal Gear Solid 2. Which was pushed back to an April release last night (well, according to their release list) , by the way.

Sega Ozesoft AKA Game Nation AKA Atari are the publisher for alot of cool games here, and because they are even more pathetic than NAL they allways gurn everything up, see the large ammount of angst in Infernals post, it's all true :[ i'll do a list of their many mistakes / problems, off the top of my head

  • Skies of Arcadia, rumoured to have had only 300 released
  • Phantasy Star Online, about the same as Skies, not released on Xbox, the console with the huge online push
  • Sonic Mega Collection, hardly any around, yet more than Skies
  • Sonic Heros, see Infernal's post, many typos calling it 'Somic' in varying forms, hell i have a free copy of Driver with 'Somic Heros' movies on it
  • MGS TTS, MGS 2? yeah nice one atardri

makes me want to vomit all over the country :[

WTF Atari? .....wtf?

I think Nintendo Australia has some serious competition.

*imagines Nintendo Australia employee's slouching even lower in their chairs, scratching their ass twice as much, and putting half as much effort into everything, in order to stay competitive with Atari*

Wasn't Atari supposed to be handling the distribution of Ikaruga?  Ah, so THAT'S why I haven't been able to find it locally...

Ah, Ebay, my old friend.

I remember when Super Monkey Ball 2 came out in March last year, it was delayed for 2 weeks, if my memory serves me right.

Atari are publishing Boktai on GBA too, and it's not coming out here until June. They spelled the name wrong on their release list too. Oh yeah, and it's going to retail for $80. Sounds like a killer marketing plan.

Oh yeah, and there's the Atari forums too, which have a whole section dedicated to gamers discussing Enter the Matrix, look at all those Enter the Matrix fans.

80 bucks for a GBA game!?

I know Boktai uses a solar sensor, but was the price higher in the US too?  If it wasn't, I'm not touching this game with a 10 foot flagpole!

Well actually even in singpore the shop guy offered to sell me Boktai for $90 is politly turned him down. Then procedded to be ripped off witha  pirate copy of Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow. ($60) So frankly $80 doens't sound too terrible.

Just got off the phone with EB. SONIC HEROES HAS BEEN DELAYED TILL THE 12TH OF FREAKING MARCH. Then I was informed that the GameCube version would be extremely limited, and that they only plan on getting enough copies in to cover the preorders. I then inquired how many pre-orders the GC version has, he came back with 'one', while giggling. That would be me.

Oh bloody hell, that is terrible. 12th of March? That's like, a whole freaking month away. I can't believe this.. so i guess that because i didn't preorder, i wont be able to get it, ever? I was playing on picking it up in a few months at some sale or something.. but i guess i can't now. If my EB gets one in i'll grab it for sure though. This sucks.

WELL DONE ATARI!!111!

This drama saga 2000 isn't over. Atari have updated their site with a big "Sonic Heroes, in stores NOW!". BUT IT ISN'T! Now I'm getting confusion from two different EB's, the one I've pre-ordered the games says the 12th of March, and another I just rang said 'Friday, maybe'. If it is Friday, I'm stuffed. I won't be getting back till' Sunday afternoon, and I'm pretty sure that's past the time EB will keep a pre-order. =/

arrgghhhhhhhh........this is reminding me of Skies of Arcadia Legends.

I just don't get the reason why Sonic Heros got delay.  It appears that every freaking Sega game get delayed.

This isn't funny Atari......

EDIT: *checks atari.com.au website*  yeah is says, "Sonic Heros is in stores now".    I had the same problem with Super Monkey Ball 2 last year when it got delay once or twice, and they didn't update their website.  And when will they fix "Metal Gear Solid 2: Twin Snakes"?  I swear it is monkeys that run Atari....I swear!

I see the current Atari as the last of a festering gangrene - every single cell of the disease must be destoyed if the industry is to rid itself of it. Retreating to the extremities to spread it's vile germ, Atari has chosen Australia as it's arch victim. No one likes Atari, and nobody really pretends to. The fact that so many companies have publishing contracts with them sadden me.

80 bucks is more than the ususal GBA game threre!? News flash importers: NZ's currency is strong that means we can buy stuff cheaper, you frikkin' idiots.

Just had to get that off my chest.

Get on Xbox Live with Sega GT Online!
Kick some butt with the best looking PlayStation 2 figting game this Christmas that also happens to be Dragon Ball Z.

This is also an update today, they're fixing this blatent error as I type, a few minutes ago they had the Conflict Desert Storm II logo next to this news bit about Racing Dragonball Z Online PlayBox 2. The signs of a great publisher...

Quoted from Atari forum;

Quote

thats it! ****in atari has screwed me over for the last time!! the ps2 version is out today. the xbox version will be out within days... the cube version according to eb, has now be DELAYED TILL 12th MARCH!!!!

i no longer can stand this.. this is PATHETIC. im not going to wait another month, just cause cube is at the bottom of atari's list of priorities. i am so sick of the bloody frustration/disappointment and delays! im going into the city now, to cancel my pre-order, get my $100 back, and order the game direct from the UK! **** the local market!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go cry.

WTF

Why? Seriously, why?

Why delay the GCN version? It's the best version of the game apparently, GCN already has a sonic fanbase, Sonic Heroes would have sold very well on GCN. Can someone tell me WHY atari are doing this? I don't get it, are they that stupid? This goes beyond pathetic. Ugh.

I'm worried about MGS:TTS's release now..

I really really hope Atari doesn't even think about screwing this up. I was thinking about just rocking up and buying this, but after hearing these problems, I'm fearing the worst. So I'm gonna pre-order it asap.

I can seem them releasing bagels instead of game discs! HOT OFF THE PRODUCTION LINE, PLAY THIS GAMECUBE CLASSIC METAL GEAR BAGEL! ;______________;

And I haven't heard much hype about Sonic Heroes? Is it that good guys? Really?

EDIT: I recall a rant at a certain PA a while ago about how unoriginal it was, and seeing it with an average of 70-something at GameRankings made me a sad panda. But I've never been a Sunik fan so meh.

Yeah, I don't think it'd really appeal unless ye be a Sonic fanboy. Arrrrr. But I'm sick of Atari standing on my groin for being a Sega fan, a Nintendo playing Sega fan.
