Hey all

I just got Soul Calibur II about two weeks ago and the very first day I had it, it would randomly stop in display a message saying that the disk was unreadable. Of course, I did what anyone would've done. I took it out, checked it all over for dust and scratches and it was fine. I put it back in and resumed right where it left off, not missing a single frame. Over a week's time though, it kept doing this. Instead of doing the hole dust/scratch check thing, I figured out that all I had to do was pop the lid open and shut it and it would work just fine. It was annoying and I did get fed up with it however. I ended up exchanging my copy, thinking that I had been sold a defective disk but the new copy does the exact same thing!

Soul Cal is the only game that's ever given me this kind of trouble and done so this frequently! My gamecube is about two years old so it fairly new and doesn't have many problems with other games except the extremely rare crash (you know, when the game freezes and the speakers do this monotone buzz), other than that, nothing terribly serious. Does anyone here have a clues as to what's going on and why Soul Cal seems to offend my gamecube so much? Does anyone else here have this problem? If there's nothing I can do, the second best thing is assurance that I'm not alone, I guess.

That crash sounds like overheating. Try to blow that dust out of the Cube.

Thanks. I'll give that a try. What tipped you off to it though? Have you heard of this sort of thing happening with that particular game?

It's happened to me before on other games.  I used a wet clocth to get it out.  Worked fine after that.

Of course, it could be the game that's the problem.  I'd get a repalcement if cleaning the system doesn't work.
