If any of you read the instruction manual, then you know that it says to unplug your GCN when you're not using it. Does anyone do that? I do.

I would only do it if my GCN was plugged straight into the wall. In my case it's not. I feed equipment like that into a surge protecter so I don't have to unplug them.

It's not a bad idea though. I mean it's always better safe than sorry. Especially when dealing with expensive electronic equipment.

They also don't recommend playing for more than an hour straight. Does anyone do that?

Heh, I never unplug it. The only reason you would want to do that is if there were to be a sudden surge of power that might damage your 'Cube...though most would probably be more concerned with the fates of their bigger, more expensive items...like that TV or speaker setup.

I try to take a break every couple of hours. I'm slightly myopic, and I don't want to make it any worse with too much eyestrain.

yeh, i dont think there really is any reason to unplug the cube while not playing. I think its just much rather a patenting precaution for Nintendo to put it in, just so they dont get kicked on their hides for not properly warning the consumers in case of a power surge or something.

Just score yourself a surge protector with a good warranty. I've got one that has a warranty that will replace anything damaged while it's plugged into said surge protector

But if I leave my GameCube plugged in for long periods of time, say months, would it damage my gameCube? Assiming there were no surges.

I have had systmes pluged in for long peroids of time (unless there is a power outage) and have never had any problems due to that. I think you are safe.

None of my systems are ever plugged in, except when I'm playing.
You see we have this nice jarrah cabinet. The consoles go in there, Mum doens't like them lying around the house, she wants it neat. So We keep the cords plugged in underneath the cabinet and the cube inside. When i want to play, I simply use the cubes handle to fetch it out of the cabinet, get teh cabels from underneath and plug them into the back of the cube.
So that's my reason for keeping it unplugged.

i have the GC on the floor next to me when i'm playing, cause the tv is like 3 metres away - not really the length of the cable is it.
My dad made some extension RGB cables that run along the wall into the amplifyer, and the power cord goes into the plug behind the chair, so when I don't play it, i put it on top of the Tv, which is the perfect spot, cause the games and the controllers fit on top there too.
It's far better than leaving it on the floor.

Hmmm....I wouldn't run a Cube on the floor or carpet. It's like a miniature vacuum cleaner for all of the dust and dander. It really clogs up the internals.

Likewise, all of my systems run through surge protectors. I wouldn't run them any other way. I've had to deal with enough of other people's systems ruined by power surges. No thanks. Surge protectors are cheap enough that everyone should use them.

The brick does trickle energy when idle. I don't know how much, but if you're electricity-concious you might want to unplug it. Has there ever been an Energy Star compliant console?

There is absolutely no problem to this. I have had the NES, the 3DO, the N64, GameCube and Xbox and I never ever bothered to unplug them for any reason at all, even when power surges occur.

Everything works perfectly fine. Don't bother, it's just TOO precautious of a precaution.

Its just one of those stupid things so they dont get sued probably, like how they say on alot of frozen foods "cook before eating" etc.

Well you would be surprised how stupid people are. But there is a chance that any electronic equipment will be damaged in surge. (Not a normal surge that comes from the power company, but a lightning storm. But you would want almost all electronic equipment unpluged during those)

Lightning storms used to eat N64 power paks really good. There were rural customers that used to get me to order paks on a regular basis.

Yeah, i actually unplug my SNES because when i leave the plug in the big block thing gets hot. I leave my Gamecube plugged iin though.

Really? My GCN (well, all my consoles) is always on the floor/carpet, i haven't noticed any problems... yet. I always leave my GCN plugged in, except when im moving it from one room to another, then it's unplugged for a few seconds.

You do know the "block" on the Gamecube power cord gets hot as well, right?

It's only slightly warm when off, so I guess it isn't wasting too much. I might unplug it if I weren't so lazy.
