"TOP SECRET" game with motion-sensing mine?
« on: January 10, 2004, 11:04:46 AM »
Does anybody remember the motion-sensing mine (not sure on the exact wording) in SSBM? In the place where it usually tells the name of the game, it says "TOP SECRET".  This was back in November 2001.  It's been over two full years, and I still have no idea what "TOP SECRET" game they mean.  IGN thought it was Metroid Prime, but it obviously isn't.  So what is it?!

I think that was supposed to be Perfect Dark Zero.  Other than that, i have no idea.

I'm not sure if they were being serious.  It had that for the cloaking device, too, but the motion sensor bomb was in the original one, too, if you recall.  I'm not sure.

If it's a joke, it must have lost something in the translation - I don't get it.  In any case, the original SSB had a motion-sensor bomb that looked different from the SSBM one.  I suppose it could've been from an early build of PD0 before Rare left.

Proximity mines were in Goldeneye, and Perfect dark, I believe. I think the TOP SECRET implied that James Bond and Joanna Dark are secret agents.

I actually thought i saw one on one of the screenshots of Geist  I used to have the theory that it was about Perfect Dark Zero, but once Rare was sold, they asked the Geist crew to add it to its Multi Player

I think they were referencing GoldenEye, especially since it looks most like the one in GoldenEye, but they didn't have the rights to use the 'GoldenEye' name anymore. I think it was the same case with the 'Beam Sword' and all the Star Wars games on N64/every Nintendo system ever.

(Which came out first on N64, Smash Bros or Perfect Dark? I don't remember)

I also thought it was Pefect Dark 0. A joke? No way.  Nintendo always drops lil hints from one game to the next about their future plans.
