Player's Choice or the like
« on: January 04, 2004, 12:08:25 PM »
I haven't sifted through the GBA section as extensively as others so I don't know if this has already been covered, but it seems that GBA games unless they are absolute crap never lower in price.  Why isn't there a greatest hits/ player's choice line up on the GBA?
P.S. I'm not so naive to miss "the more money angle" but nintendo offers a line up for GCN so why not the more popular GBA.

thats a good question. i dont buy many gba games, becouse in my area i can get gamecube games for only $5-$10 more(new prices). i would definately buy some more if there was a players choice lineup. the thing about gba games is that i think they are expensive to make, and third party publishers only get a limited amount made. that could be part of the reason, but i'm just guessing. i'm sure nintendo could still offer some of their first party games at a discounted price though.

because they sell now between 29.99 and 34.99 dollars, when the GBA first came out games were selling for 39.99 or more.  The drop in price we are playing for me, is equal to players choice price.  Also Nintendo's games tend to sell for the higher amount while most third party games sell around 29.99 or less, like 26.99 or so, but I rarely see that for new releases.

nitsujdark, Nintendo 1st party games usually sell a few dollars lower than 3rd party games (unless they are crap) around where I live.  Yes at the beginning you saw a couple of games in the $40 range but then there was a shift to the $30-35 range and it has stayed there even since.  That's fine but why aren't games that have sold past the 200k mark being discounted further?  My mentality when I'm thinking about buying some more GBA games is, "if I had 20 more dollars, I could get a much more dazzling console game."  Consequently I have about 6 but have owned my GBA since the day it launched.

One reason I think we don't see too many discounted GBA game prices is because unlike the other game systems the GBA has no competition.  PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox all have some sort of discounted titles line because they need to remain competitive.  With the GBA if the games are too expensive well that's too f*cking bad because you can't buy another handheld can you?  Well you can buy an N-Gage but I don't think that's a fair comparison.

I've also noticed that due to the huge amount of GBA games available I just plain don't see that many older titles on store shelfs.  Aside from the first party games I only see most GBA titles on shelves for a few months until the publisher releases something else.  This Christmas I couldn't find any third party titles that were released before this summer.  Even Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow which not only came out this year but is a really major GBA release wasn't anywhere to be found.  Now maybe that's only how it is in my area but I doubt you can find many titles from 2001 on store shelves.  Stores can easily fill up their shelves with new GBA titles so they don't really have any need to have older titles, sold at a lower price, in their store.

If  the reason theres no GBA players choice is that theres no competition thats gonna change when sony hits the handheld market.  Nintendo needs to hook gamers now on the GBA or else they might lose customers to sony.  Adding a players choice lineup would be a good idea.  I mean would it be hard for nintendo to put games like Mario Kart super circuit, and Super Mario advance 2 at 25$?

Lets see, there isn't compition you guys are right about that, and the fact that there are hundreds of GBA games out (about 500) so stores just don't have the room to hold discounted titles.  Now if Nintendo had a problem with keeping shelvs full they would discount there titles and keep them on the shelvs.  Though its the oposite they want them gone so there is space for the newer games.  So instead of dicounting them they will let shipments run at a much slower pace when sales dip.  As for the reason you see crapy games on the shelvs at a discounted rate is because they are just that, crapy, and are not selling.  Stores have to get rid of them to make room for the games that are.  Stores have full control over how they discount games.  If people stop buying our beloved Mario and Luigi or Final Fantasy Tactics prices will be dropped on them.  But don't expext that to happen any time soon.  Exspecially following the strongest year that the Game boy (not GBA) had ever seen in its 17 year period (17 right??, close to that if I am wroung).  Oh yea and BTW-When you guys said it costd more to make a GBA game sence it is cartrige base and that is true.  I just want to point out that you have to remember about certain games have even more put in them then normal.  For example the past 4 pokemon titles have had an extra battery for an internal clock, and Bok-tai which contains a sun sensor.  And one more thing you guys should realize most USED GBA games sell very well too.  Sence you can hardly ever find them for cheap in stores they sell well on ebay, Gamestop, or to your friends which is cheaper and more eficient (you might even rent them out so you can get some money back, just becarful who you rent them to).  You can't go wroung buying a game then selling it later, I do it all the time for the system and I rarely lose any money.  Hell sometimes I make some.  Of course I don't spend any more then 25 on my games.  If you want to know why I get them cheap read on if not you can stop here there isn't any more useful information.  If you buy a game the weak it comes out most stores like target and bestbuy will put them on sale for about 25.  And you can get coupons at best buy for 5 bucks of that , though sometimes they might say that you can't use the coupon most of the time they won't notice.  For an explanation on how to get a free 5 doller off coupon at best buy please read on.  There are jewl case gift cards they sell at best buy and have for about 7 months I beleive.  Go in and look for the ones that have "5 DOLLERS OFF" in the lower right hand corner.  Buy this gift card and make it out for 5 bucks.  Then go back in and buy the game. use the gift card and the coupon.  Wala you just saved your self 5 smackers in a couple minutes.  I have done it a couple dozen times
Final Fantasy Tactics advance is an amazing adventure that only the best will be able to finnish.
Current record 290 missions, please tell me how to read the hero goal (the book says I have to read it in order to do a few missions.  Thank you
