Nintendo has released their financial results for the second quarter (July to September) of their 2026-27 fiscal year, which were the first before price increases due to component costs took effect, and this is shown in their financial results.

All figures quoted in yen with a US$1 = ¥158.284 rate used to provide US$ figures for comparison only.

Financial indicators

  • Revenue: Â¥448.228bn (approximately $2.831bn), down 14.98% compared to Q2 25-26.
  • Operating income: Â¥73.904bn (~$466.9m), down 16.26%.
  • Ordinary income: Â¥94.526bn (~$597.1m), down 32.59%.
  • Digital sales: Â¥116.5bn (~$738.5m), up 36.41%.
  • Mobile/IP revenue: Â¥27.9bn (~$176.2m), up 68.07%.

Hardware Unit Sales

Switch 2 shipped 2.67m units last quarter for a new lifetime total of 26.35m units. This places it 6.58m units short of the Nintendo 64 on the lifetime sales chart, which may be attainable this quarter and if not certainly by the end of the fiscal year in March.

The original Switch saw shipments of 610,000 systems (310,000 OLED, 190,000 original, 110,000 Lite), leaving it 2.9m shy of the PlayStation 2's currently stated record. This may be attainable by the end of 2026, but if not may be more difficult due to the original Switch models being discontinued in Europe during the first quarter of 2027 due to battery regulations in the region.

New Software Unit Sales

Nintendo had three new software releases during the quarter, and all of them shipped more than 1m copies: Rhythm Heaven Groove (July 2) led the way at 2.89m units sold, followed by Splatoon Raiders (2.42m) and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave (1.31m). For comparison, Fire Emblem: Three Houses shipped 2.29m units and Fire Emblem: Engage 1.61m units in their opening quarters, though both had more than two months to ship compared to Fortune's Weave having two weeks.

Catalogue Software Unit Sales

For Switch 2, Mario Kart World continues to pull in million unit quarters, with 1.09m units shipped for a new lifetime total of 16.48m. Pokemon Pokopia reports 4.04m units shipped from Nintendo (outside Japan), with a worldwide total of 5.3m including Japan where Koei Tecmo is the publisher. Star Fox, which launched with less than a week in the prior quarter, has also joined the 1m club at 1.17m units. Switch 2 million sellers can be found here: this will likely become a top 10 list with the next quarterly results given the release of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has reached a new lifetime total of 8.81m units, adding another 870,000 to its tally. Nintendo has also begun reporting combined totals for Switch 2 edition releases in cases where the Switch 2 edition is over a million, as seen with Pokemon Legends: Z-A (4.04m on Switch 2, combined 13.31m) and Super Mario Party Jamboree (1.28m on Switch 2, 12.01m combined). The Switch top 10 is here.

Other News

In light of recent controversy over the state of physical games, Nintendo noted that 64.1% of its software sales in the first half of the fiscal year have been digital. This figure will likely drop slightly for the holiday season.

No changes have been made to Nintendo's expected financial results or unit sales for Switch 2 and Switch hardware/software.
