Plug: But I doubt those restrictions apply when the memcard interfaces with a PC.

F-Zero Garage Data can be moved, the only F-Zero data that can't is your progress through the Story and Grand Prix modes... which is uber lame.

It's because of the internet ranking- they don't want you copying someone else's progress and then get above a lot of other people that worked really hard to get where they are.

I've seen some STUPID gaming wastes in my life, but this one takes the cake. First off, I kinda like cheating, especially Gameshark, but only after I beat the game and wanna really screw around. But at least w/ cheating you actually play through the whole game (well, there are level warps), and have fun doing it. You see what the game is about, all the story plots (and plotholes) and your character evolve. Just loading a beaten game makes for no reason to play the game, other then maybe see an ending you couldn't understand because you never saw the story evolve. The only point to this would to back up your save files and send them to friends online. Still, you could just do this by taking your 2 memory cards and copying files. Oh wait, I guess your too damn lazy to get off your ass and see your friend. Also, if your too cheap to shell out some cash for a memory card shame on you. I never see how people can fill up memory cards. I have 16 games and many more game files on my Gamecube memory card, and it's not even near filling up. Plus, this is just my personal problem, my PC sux! It's a Pentium 2! I would never back up anything on this piece of junk, not after counting 3 virus attacks, resulting in a hard drive wiping everytime! The only real reason for buying it is if you rented a game for a party w/ your friends and don't want to spend half the night unlocking the first part of secret multiplayer options. In fact, that might JUST be a reason for me to buy it, when I have this extra 30 bucks burning a hole in my pocket.

I hope you don't mind me posting this, but there is already a nice yahoo club for gamesaves at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ngcfs/ . Someone there has even started hacking TS2 maps to put in secret characters and stuff. And someone posted there that PSO has some sort of protection against copying memory card files.

SSJ Shake: I guess you weren't reading the other posts. The use for this would be to transfer game saves over the internet to people you don't know, not to your next-door neighbor.
Sounds like there's some cool applications of this, but it would be nicer if you could do it without getting cheat saves as well.

What I don't get is why people whine and complain about products like this.  About how it's cheating or it ruins the game experence or whatever.

It's this simple.  If you don't like the product, then don't buy it.  If you never buy it, it in no way affects you or your gameplay expericnce.  Let peope do what they want with their games and ruin them if they want.
Both $ony & now M$ appear to have been "using" the gaming industry to finance and prop-up their other industries which would struggle as stand-alone.

I'm not complaining about offline, but it could be used to cheat online as well.

Yeah, there's some advantages to this besides "beating the game on the work of someone else", but what's the sad part is that a bunch of peripheral developers realized that there's enough market potential for this. Lazy "gamers" who can't even be bothered to actually play through the game that they've spent their money to buy...or rent. The "beat the game in a day" mentally really leaves me wondering. Go take up another pastime already.

Has any one found these in stores yet?  I've gone to several places now only to have the store assistant look at me with a dumb-founded face and say "There's nothing like that for Gamecube."
