Gamecube for $100
« on: December 20, 2003, 07:33:59 AM »
My friend was trying to sell me his gamecube for $150, then the regular priced dropped.  Now, He'll PROBABLY sell it to me for $100.  It comes with:
- A gamecube
- 4 controller (official nintendo)
- A Memory card (Dunt know the size)
- Super Smash Bros Melee

I was wondering if it was truly worth it, after all, it is a USED gamecube.  One thing is, once he was holding on the his gamecube with one hand and the power cord with the other and dropped his gamecube.  but he caught it with the cord, so it might be messed up.

Buy/No buy?

Unless he wailed on it with a sledge hammer, a used Gamecube is nearly as good as a new one. And all that for $100 is a great deal- I'd personally go for it.

My Gamecube fell a good three feet onto hard tile, and I did not catch it.  It still works beautifully.

Extremely good deal. . . even if he charged you 150 for it you'd still get a reasonable deal.  But don't tell him I said that

Buy.

Good deal, better buying it from him than somthing like EBAY too because then you have seen it, know it exists, works etc.  If it turns out not to work properly once you buy it you always have the option of beating your friend up also. lol  Buy it

Alrite my mind is set, I'm buying it.

But there's just one problem: Parents.
I KNOW they wont let me hav a game console.  especially one the named Gamecube!  I was planning on telling them "I'm only gonna play it when friends come over." And keep it under my bed when I'm not using it.

OR I could hid it in my room, wait untill my parents are out of the house (which is very very rare) and play it.

My parents are a drag.

yea thats worth it, the only thing that might go wrong is the wires inside the cord could have sustained damage and they stop working later, but its just the cord, small amount of money.  anyways my friend had a similar deal, his parents did not allow videogame consoles at all, and he hid it and played it when they didnt know, one day they found it and they gave in and let him keep it, probably after some scolding.

if your parents have a problem, explain to them that all your friends are allowed to have them, also that it will improve your eye hand coordination and once you get your license you will be a better driver, you can then go on and on about how games increase your IQ by making you think in new ways to solve problems (called fluid intelligence, as opposed to crystallized intelligence [i did not make that up, look it up if u want]).
good luck

Tell your parents to bite your shiny metal ass.

If you buy something yourself then it is yours, if some old lady tells you you cant have it, then tell her shes not allowed to have the 20 dollars a week you take from her purse for drugs. If she doesnt belive you, start sniffling every once in a while, and just acting not quite right. Then mumble things about how you would start spending your cash on games instead of drugs if you could.

Yep, that should work.
And if it doesnt theyll send you to rehab, and I hear they have vid games there. Its win win!

Okay, I'm not sure why your parents would not let you have a system called Gamecube. . . but try what joeamis said, and almost mention how family friendly the GC is.  Not sure how old you are, but could help either way.

Is it a grades thing?  Not responsible enough, so you can't play games?  If so, just try to improve whatever the situation is, maybe keep it hidden or something until then.

Just get the Gamecube and don't worry about what your parents think.
Rebelling against authority is just a normal part of growing up and if getting a Gamecube against their wishes is the worst act of rebellion you ever commit your parents will have lucked out.

Have you asked them? Parents are often unpredictable in their decisions.

Some parents are bloody stupid.  That's my conclusion.  I would have killed myself long ago if my parents were like DaTwig's.  (And I am perfectly serious).

Pfft. At first I thought my parents would never allow me to buy a console, let alone give me one for christmas. Turned out they were a lot more permissive when I asked them.

I'm 18. Was 17 when I got my Cube, however I plan on living at home for at least a few more years, keeps the life support costs down during those low-to-no income university years.

my parents bought me my NES when I was 7.  I am 22 now (I think).  My parents still support my gaming habits.  I never had any censorships either growing up.  When I was 7 years old, my favorite movie was The Terminator, and my favorite scene was the part that he took out his eyeball.  I started reading Stephen King books when I was in 5th grade.

Do I feel any of that was bad for me?  No.  I grew up liberated, and it's made me a strong person.  I went insane for completely unrelated reasons.  That stuff just helps me get through it.

I'm sure I can try to hide it from my parents somehow.

Bad news for me: When I called my friend he already sold it. GRR.

I was sooooooooo pissed.  now I gotta get a gamecube from a retail store.  I hope they still have some.  I want the platinum one.

But your life seems very sad and full of twists and turns......it'd make a good book.  BOOK ATTACK GO!

I can never remember how old I am, and I hate figuring it out.  I was born in July of 1981, so you can go from there.

KnowsNothing, that which does not kill us makes us stronger.  Although I would change things if I could, if I really hated how things turned out that much, I wouldn't be sitting here right now.  It's true that I came very close to reaching that limit, but I didn't.

Basically, I am saying that I am a stronger person for having survived my life.  As for a book?  No.  I think the things I have seen in my life deserve to die with me.
