A Problem with my cube
« on: December 06, 2003, 05:24:22 AM »
Ok so i haven't played my cube in about 3 months. I try to play it today and all my games get the "disk can't be read" screen. There was a little dust inside the cube. I got a wet cloth(Justa little water not dripping wet) And got the dust out and dried it up right after, I made sure i didn't touch the lens or anything like that." Anyway when i try to play ssb i can play 1 round and then when the round is over and it trys to go back to the select screen i get the "disc can't be read" screen. When i try to play 007 it gets to the mgm screen and then get that screen of death. A couple other games will load for a few seconds and then get that screen. Could it be cause i haven't played my cube in while?? Is the lens dirty?? Is there a gamecube lens cleaner?? I can't use a regualr cd cleaner since it can't fit.

Email Nintendo tell them your problem and ask them where you can get mini-dvd disk cleaner to work on gamecube.

Have you tried blowing compressed air into your GameCube? It's possible the rag didn't get all of the dust.

I believe its the dust.  My cube had that same problem.  If its still under warranty send it back to nintendo.  If not try compressed air like Rhoq suggested.  If that doesnt work...well...Your screwed.

Yeah, I would try the compressed air, that should do the trick. But if that doesn't seem to work, if you have a EB Games around you I think that will buy broken consoles and give you the trade in credit. Not sure how much it would be but I'm sure if you get like 20 or 30 more bucks you can get a new GameCube, and the free Zelda Disc.

Although I am not 100% sure if they take in broken GameCubes. But my friend traded in his Broken PS2 so I don't see why they wouldn't take a cube.

You don't have anything to lose by trying the compressed air. If it doesn't work, then you always have in on hand in case you want to read the contents of a letter in an envelope without opening it (steaming is waaay to obvious). Here's what you do. First, go outside with the envelope and the compressed air. Then turn the compressed air can upside down and spray it at the envelope. This will cause the can to spray this highly toxic liquid that will soak into the paper long enough for you to read through it, but will evaporate quickly. Once you have the envelope fairly saturated, take a picture of it with a digital camera. If the letter is folded you may need to reassemble it's contents in photoshop. Finally, let the envelope dry, and make sure that you never touch the liquid the compressed air can spit out. Like I said, it's really toxic.

Yes like nintendo fan said you can trade in broken consoles.  I traded in my cube which had the exact same problems yours had.  Actually when I think about it, they didnt even check to see if it worked or not.  They just took it and gave me some trade in credit.  I think they just get them refurbished by nintendo and sell it at a higher price.

Ok well it's working better now but i still get that screen every now and then. I played ssb with my friends last night for a good hour or so and it played fine. I brought mario kart yesterday. First time played it with my friends it went fine (Really fun game by the way) But today i can't get it to work. I keep getting that screen.I tried to play blitz today also but i got that screen. I'm guessing it's the lens. Maybe it;s jus dirty.Maybe i'll trade in my cube to EB after christmas and get a brand new one witht he zelda disk! Shouldn't cost no more then 30$ more after the trade in credit right?? O and do you need the original gamecube box to trade it in?? I got my cube 2 years ago for christmas. I don't have the box anymore. Lol. Thanks!!

No you dont need any boxes.  All you need is the cube all the chords and one controller.  You dont even have to tell them your cube isnt working.  I dont think they care.  When I went to trade mine in, he just took the system and gave me the trade in credit.  Make sure you have all the things I mentioned above so that you can get the full trade in amount.

Push the thing that holds the lens towards the centre of the cube.  They drift away slightly over time from being moved and banged around.

I think any devices can not clean by a water. So, that is the problem of your cube.

You should just save up for a Wii, it will be two gamecubes duct taped together

Bots don't care how much they annoy you or how often you ban them, you need better anti-bot measures. The good thing is that unless you're running a major website botmakers won't adjust their bots to your site so even just a checkbox like "are you human?" can throw them off. Should probably not use that exact question because too many people already had that idea but something similar, a trivial test that bots can't answer because they don't think at all.

No, it should be "Does Nintendo care about the hardcore?", with the added benefit of not allowing any more annoying haters to join.

How about asking who the Director of NWR is and giving a link to the staff bios page.

POn the matter of the broken GC. Mine has the same issue. I bought a Wii and use it for all my GC playing needs. It is only a problem if you want to use the Gameboy Player or the Broadband modem for Mario Kart LAN action. I'd just trade it in for a Wii and if you still want the Cube grab a new one off an online store for cheap.

GameCubes are pretty cheap at GameStop too, only $30.
