video game awards
« on: December 04, 2003, 07:35:42 PM »
any of you guys watch the video game awards? i had it running in the background while i was studying for exams and i gotta say what a waste of time. like game of the year madden 2004 and best sprts game THUG, and wwe smackdown as best fighting game when SC2 won most addictive, im thinking payoff by the wwe since they spike carries raw. i jsut thought it was a complete joke designed to appeal to the mass audiance insted of picking games that actually should have won.
holla if you hear me

definitely agree.  that show was a total joke and a slap in the face to all gamers out there.  how in the world can true crime win for action game of the year?  im not saying its a bad game, but there are just so many more appealing ones.  like you said, total waste of time!!!

is there anyway we can bombard them with emails or something to inform them of the crapfest that was?  it disrespects games and the hard work that goes into making the good ones, which weren't the ones that got awards for the most part!!!  my biggest anger inducing moment, enter the matrix as best game based on a movie.  what a joke!!!  im getting ticked off just writing about it!!!  i guess the lotr games sucked, but wait, at least they didnt freeze up cause you played it for more then an hour.  Oh, and thats why they were actually GOOD games.  they need help, they need to stop, they need to never do this show again!!!

I didn't watch it since they taped it a few days ago and I found out well ahead of time that it was a waste of time.  Was the Rey Mysterio vs Chris Jericho match that was supposed to be on the show any good?

Madden 2004 winning is probably the stupidest decision imaginable since it's the same damn game every year.  So is Madden 2005 going to win next year?  And Madden 2006 the year after that?  Sports games should never be nominated for  a fan-voted best overall award because sports gamers often don't play any other games and thus mess up the voting and aren't representative of the average gamers.  A sports gamer is a sports fan, not a games fan.

I think one guy on the Penny Arcade forum summed it up best: Madden winning is like football winning an Emmy.  "And the winner of best TV special of the year is THE SUPERBOWL!!"

Someone needs to televise the REAL videogame awards.  I forget what they're called but they're considered the real deal by the industry.

Gamespy has an article on this and they seemed to actually LIKE IT for the most part.  Man, they've only been merged with IGN for one day and already they've made me say "what the f*ck is wrong with these people".

I prefer Gaming Age's take on the show.  It's much more in line with ours.

The morons only like it for the attention the games are getting.  Even if it is the crap that's getting attention.

Attention is a stupid reason to like it.  Hey the videogame violence issue gets games attention too.  Do we like that?

Madden 2005 wont automatically win anything.  There have been a few years that the game was worse than the prior year. (1996)  This year i happen to agree its the best.   But your comment on sports games and the people who play them is very troubling.  If you sincerely believe that, i would like to know, why?  I have been gaming since 1980 and love many games , all different kinds.  Madden is great and so is Tiger Woods golf.  I have 4 sports games, then RE1,ED,MP,Simpsons:H&R,Baldurs Gate, Zelda:WW and OoT, TS2, Burnout 2.

Everyone i know plays Madden, but also love other genres.  In fact, they would say Maddens their favorite, but they still play and like everything.  I think your logic is misguided.  Theres also people who only liike FPS, but i dont think they're the majority, nor do i think the people you speak of are the majority.

I'm not directing my comment to people that play sports games I'm directing it to people who play nothing but sports games.  There are tons of people who own a console (usually a PS2) just to play sports games.  They don't own any other games and rarely even play any other games.  They're like the most extreme casual gamer around and they often throw a monkey wrench in sales figures because of their one dimensional gaming tastes.  True there are people who only like RPGs or FPS but they aren't as common as the sports nuts are.  I've met people that own a console JUST for Madden and never buy anything else.

This thing was amazing...I was literally open mouthed half the time. It was just so disturbing--with the cheerleaders, and the horrible bands, and DMX, etc. After Enter the Matrix won an award I turned it off. It seemed that only "cool" games won any awards.

"i mean it picked wwe over soul calibur 2????!!!! how the f*ck does that work!!!!!"

WWE paid them money and contributed two matches to the show.  Namco didn't.  Seems pretty simple to me.

And how did you get an uncensored f-bomb in your post?  I got an error when I quoted your post.

I turned it off when I saw jenna jamison drag her now saggy body out to the stage and heard everyone happy.  Somehow I think spike tv has confused videogames with their programming.  3/4 of the show was stupid, and the other 1/4 was an abomination agaist tv.
