Click here and read the news story. Pretty funny. I like the little cliff hanger there about how there's no record of the guy before December 2002. Of course Andrew Carlssin probably just isn't his real name.

I think this kind of raises a good question about time travel though. If it were actually possible why haven't we had anything happen like this before for real? One thing I've thought of even though I really don't believe it is that all these alien abductions you hear about are actually caused by evolved humans that have traveled back in time to study the past.

Wow, impressive. And I always thought Einstein was an idiot for saying time travel was possible. Who knew.
On a side note, how much do you think we could get for a time machine on E-BAY?

Why don't you just try it out? There's all sorts of crazy made up crap on E-Bay to bid on and plenty of stupid bidders. I've heard of somone auctioning off a ghost in a jar for crying out loud. You probably wouldn't have any trouble auctioning off a time machine.

That was always one of my primary arguments too.  Since all I know about this story is what you just linked me to, I have absolutely no way of saying that the guy is lying.  About the only thing I can really see wrong with his story from reading that is that he claims to be from 200 years in the future.  I highly doubt that the human race will last that long.

I still don't get why people think time is dimensional. Even if it was, things that MOVE through time, well, move. Moving means you no longer are where you were. So if you went 200 years back you'd notice you missed Earth by 200 years. BTW, you'd need to travel quite a distance after the time-travel, the Sol system is moving pretty fast. To solve the movement-problem you have to assume things extrude through time, which means their mass increases. If you went back and changed the past, why should the present care? If both past and present can coexist in an n-dimensional space, why should one bother with the state of the other? Would the past just re-extrude while removing any matter left by the former timeline? Would this re-extrusion ever catch up with the present or would it lag behind? I think until we resolved ALL of those conflicts we should assume the non-dimensionality or non-existence of time.

"'We don't believe this guy's story -- he's either a lunatic or a pathological liar,' says an SEC insider."

Gee you think?

If this guy IS from the future then it's best we just send him home.  Even the slightest change could alter the future in ways we can't imagine.  It's funny how he's offering the cure for AIDS and whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden.  How does he know this stuff?  I don't know what the vacination for small pox is so unless he's a scientist (though he might be if he invented the device) how would he know the cure for AIDS?

"However, he refuses to reveal the location of the machine or discuss how it works, supposedly out of fear the technology could 'fall into the wrong hands.'"

Hasn't it already fallen into the wrong hands if the guy is using it to make money off of the stock market?  Maybe it already has fallen into the wrong hands.  I mean no one would know if history was tampered with.  Perhaps World War II and the September 11 tragedy were all the result of misuse of time travel.

The funny thing is that he could very well be telling the truth but everyone is going to think he's full of sh!t no matter what.  That's like a staple of time travel science fiction.

Brought to you by the "Weekly World News" the same puplication that also uncovered "JFK and Reagan met with aliens at the white house" (they even pictures) and a nice little story about a half pig half boy that was doing university level math at the age of 8.

Heh, cool.

Personally, I don't think time is as fragile as we think; it'll work itself out.  But I also think that UFOs are students of the future taking a field trip during history class, for hands on activities, so to speak.

I also don't see why inside information should be illegal.  If you can get a hold of it, kudos to you.  You're more determined than anyone else to get stocks, so you earned them.  But I know nothing about stocks, so I'm probably wrong.

You thought he was an idiot?

By the way, time travel has been done, about 60 some odd years ago.  Of course, it'll never copme out officially, but since the 30's the U.S. has been trying to perfect it.  In fact Einstein and another German scientist were involved with the 'Manhattan project"  But i'll just be labled a crack pot, so i'll shut up now.

I guess the other German you refer to is was Werner von Braun. A rocket scientist. Famous quote: "My job is to get the missile up in the air, where it comes down is none of my business".

That story was so obviously fake... I mean, quotes like "he's either insane or lying" sound pretty manufactured, the kind that time-travel stories put in the mouth of disbelievers, not like something anybody would actually say. If the gov really suspected any time travel, they'd lock him up where the public will never see him again and interrogate him. I believe the gov is really effective at interrogations, at least the inofficial kind.

Ian: I don't believe you. First you have to prove that 1. time exists and 2. time is dimensional.

The Omen, I was being sarcastic about Einstein, I realise he was a genius. But honestly I dont believe people can travel through time, but thats just my opinion, I could be wrong. Heres a question, If he traveled back 200 years then he doesnt exist in this time so he cant give himself the money. What is he going to do with it? If the plan is to take it back with him, why not just rob a couple banks and leave? Besides, just think of the THINGS he could take back with him that would be worth alot of money in 200 years. Why bother with the stock market?

Money would be worthless in two hundred years.  Agreed.

But I'd still do it for the thrill.  The bank robbing, that is.

Yes/  I meant the 'Philadelphia experiment'.  Got confused for a second.
By the way, i wasn't inferring that i believe this particular story, although its quite odd.  Its funny that he says he won't reveal where his time craft is, but his reasoning is correct.  He'd never leave this planet alive without 'black budget' houligans reverse engineering it.
