Why this early?  Is MS giving up on this gen?  I can understand Sony doing it because PS2 has reached market saturation but why MS?

Well, game developers need at least a year of development time. Spring 2004 isn't so bad if you want to launch a product anytime in 2005.

Of course, C&VG isn't exactly the word of god either.

Just because a console hasn't be unveiled yet doesn't mean the developers don't have dev kits- unveiling just means when it's first shown to the public.

Well, I know for sure that one of the biggest 3rd party publishers doesn't have dev kits for any next-gen system other than the PSP, and that one was very recent.

The article is in reference to the rumor that the product(s) may be discussed at the Game Developers Conference, which isn't public.

i think nintendo are goign to surprise every1 with the next console.. i noe this sounds weird but the ohter day i found a pattern in what nintendo does. remember when they bought out the nes, then the bought out the snes. that was just a better then the nes. it wasnt a big leap. then they took a huge leap into 3d gaming with the n64. then they bought out the gc which i recon is just a bit better in specs then the n64.  and the next console might be something no1 has ever seen b4 just like the n 64. does any1 agree?

No I completely disagree!  I think that the technical/graphical improvements will be very minor compared to other generation changes.  And even if they did come out with something completely revolutionnary or mind-blowing (which I guarantee won't happen), nobody would be able to harness those 'visions' because developpers won't be able to keep up with the advancements.  Do you think that when gaming went from 2D to 3D, it become easier to do 2D?  

And I still think SNES is the best console ever.

I hope not, Im just getting my gc.  I dont think xbox is going to give up that easily and isnt another GTA game suppose to come out in 2004?  I dont think that rockstar would mess that up by putting it while microsoft and sony are pretty much killing there current systems.  So far it seems like in early 2003 even there is a lot of what should be hit games coming out, another reason not to.  Also next gen consoles seem like its going to be a race to who can put the most crap functions on there system.  As of now I cant see much improving on graphics wise.

Says there not even until autumn 2006 ps3 will probably be available in the USA.  So if they reveal there new systems to the public in 04 theyd be losing alot of money in that 2 year period, almost 3.  I dont think Microsoft and Sony are that stupid.  Sony made that mistake last time with the ps2.  I doubt theyll do it again.

Although that totaly new thing that has been hinted at will probably be revealed at E3. Maybe the Nessix.

PS3 will have wireless controllers... sounds like they will be standard too. Way to rip off other people's ideas, Sony. I knew this would happen eventually, but still.

I just think its waaaay to early to be speculating on new consoles, its going to be awhile guys. this is all just hype, dont give into it ;-)
