Factor 5 have been developing for xbox for a long time now..... the divx codec. No games. Supporting XNA means only they're going to continue their work on divx for xbox.

Well, Factor 5 support a lot of stuff, that doesn't mean they're exclusive developers. They seem to be mostly concerned with technical advances, not exclusivity or competition.

New Rumor: The agreement announced at GDC between Kuju and Nintendo may yield a new Castlevania game for Gamecube. This comes after someone claiming to be Kuju's quality assurance directer or something gave a hint on a f board.

Before reading this, repeat after me: this is a rumor with no basis in anything that I personally know.

That said, somone who works for ATI and posts on Beyond3d.com as well as another senior poster who has connections to people in the know as far as hardware goes are both saying that MS and Nintendo are likely to share the same platform next generation. As to what this means, I dont know. It could simply mean that Nintendo is buying into the XNA initiative which would allow games to, essentially, be co-developed easily for Xbox2, N5 and PC... which would make Sony the od-man out for third party support. This seems like the most likely outcome.

However, at another forum I frequent a thread broke out about the rumor, and the following people have chimed in on the subject in various ways.

matt C. cube.ign.com - thinks there is something to it.
japanese poster - says MS has a HUGE ace up their sleeve
staff member for japanese gaming publication - wont say anything because he does not want to upset the people who told him, but says that the gaming-world will be turned on its head.
Edge writer - "Itssaa mee a-master chief" (direct quote).

There are also other members of the "Japanese Crew" at this site (posters from Japan) who generally know whats up, and evidently, this rumor has been flying around Japan like mad.

The best that I can gather is something is being discussed, MS is the one that seems to be pushing the discussions... but no one knows what exactly 'same platform' means... but most of the writers/insiders for gaming companies seem to be pointing to systems that play the same games...

I think the whole thing sounds fishy as hell, and all of the best sources at gaming-age are keeping their lips sealed on this one (most have sources for these things simply because they never let things slip before they are told they can leak the info).

I doubt that rumor has validity, didnt Ati say the chip sets were different, i also think i read a similar rumor somewhere about a possible alliance, but its doubtfull.... Nintendo isnt leaving the Hardware buisness, and any alliance with Microsoft, would be much more profitable for MS than for Nintendo

weather ms or nintendo will profit from an alliance I aint sure but you have to remember that the bulk of profit is in software. Combining the 2 into one market will thus give them both a larger market share which in turn then leaves bigger software sales. Unless Sony really messes up, this is the only way I can see either nintendo or ms ever reaching sony in sales. In the eyes of the average consumer, ninteno nor ms can ever live up to sony. The ps3 is practically garantied a winner just cuase of the ps1 and 2's sales. The average gamer (the bulk of gamers that drive the industry) always follow the hype. The only thing that could ever topple the hype of sony releasing a new generation of the ps is a colaberation between Nintendo and MS. As long as microsoft doesnt optain any shares of nintendo and eventually gets control over the compnay, I embrace the alliance.

Well what I got from it was that Nintendo and Microsoft would each have their own system but they would share similar architecture. This could be entirely true seeing as how they both have ATI and IBM work on their GPU AND CPU, so its entirely possible but I don't really see any advantage to either company in it.

if they do both use the same architecture and in essence play the same games then I could see nintendo's system being the all game system whereas microsoft will have the one that'll compete directly to ps2 wit dvd playback and whatever other options.

I'm sorry but thats not a real possibilty. If they both sell the same system but with Microsoft selling a fully loaded version, there would be major conflict with licsencing, the real money for Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony. Thats part of the reason the Nintendo playstation never came out. Every game made for the CD add-on would go to Sony so Nintendo cut ties with them.

And I say XNA is stupid. Sure, it's nice to have semi-platform-independant (only works with Windows) code, but you have hardware and markets that differ so much you could just as well write three different games. It's about as useful as having code that executes on both GBA and GC, sure, it might work, but who would want that?

Nintendojo is report that the N5 will feature two IBM processers. I'm not sure but isn't Xbox 2 also going to have 2 IBM processers? Heres the link.

XBox 2 was announced to have three (they might use less, after all they're using PwerMac G5s as devkits and those don't come with three processors). If they want to boast with that them might have a word wirth Sony, who will have 32 or something like that. If you ask me we don't need that, I have one processor that is a lot slower than this IBM thing and it still doesn't slow down any new games. Two processors (which, unlike the other consoles, will likely have more specific tasks) demand multiprocessing, though, which games don't deliver.

Doesn't surprise me that the N5 will have two CPUs, the DS has two and Iwata said the DS is a sample of what they're planning for the N5.

The rumor I've heard is about 3 dual-core PowerPCs in Xbox Next - so it's more like 6 processors on Xbox 2, looking at it from the software side.

That processor we're talking about is dual core. It's the same one that will be used in the N5 according to IBM press releases.
