NINTENDO DOUBLES IT'S MARKET SHARE!!!!
« on: November 17, 2003, 10:32:50 AM »
Here's some great news that I did not see posted on the front page, where it belongs.
(It figures)  So in case you missed it, here it is:

http://www.sm128c.com/news/newspro/viewnews.cgi?newsid1067966600,64018,

In case that link didn't work, cut and paste this one:

http://www.sm128c.com/news/newspro/viewnews.cgi?newsid1067966600,64018,

And just in case you are too lazy to follow the link, here's a quote from the article:

"REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 4, 2003 – In the video game industry, momentum has a new name: Nintendo GameCube™. In just 35 days of availability at a new manufacturer's suggested retail price of $99.99, Nintendo GameCube has more than quadrupled its sales rate and grabbed 18 points of market share from its two competitors.

Sales figures gathered from the nation's largest retailers show that Nintendo GameCube effectively doubled its market share to 37 percent from 19 percent. The system now runs a strong second in the U.S. market as it challenges for leadership during the important holiday sales season"

Here's one more quote:

"When combined with the Game Boy® Advance SP, Nintendo is responsible for half of all system sales to date in 2003. In addition, Nintendo game systems are the only ones to show a year-to-date increase in sales compared with 2002. Game Boy Advance sales are up 25 percent from 2002, while Nintendo GameCube sales are 2 percent above last year. In contrast, sales for Microsoft's Xbox dropped 3 percent and Sony's PlayStation 2 dropped 17.5 percent."

WOW, PS2 sales dropped that much?!  Post all the excuses you wan't, but to me it looks like the competition is in SERIOUS trouble.  Massive job lay-offs for sony, dropping sales, and a floundering online campaign that did not work out as they planned.  Then there's Microsoft and it's 3 billion $ losses.  I read recently that investors in MS are starting to question the future of the Box.  This is all good news for Nintendo.

PS2 sales have dropped off because therre have all ready been a bajillian and a half PS2's sold.(I know bajillion's not a number but it sounds cool.) For the most part anyone who was planning on getting one has it.

Interesting read, only possible misconception is that its a strong number 2 as far as monthly goes, not in total.

Welcome to two weeks ago.

Nintendo's sales in the US only doubled for a month, the month of October. They are still far behind the PS2 and even the Xbox in total hardware sales.

Mario, sales could've stayed doubled in November, but we won't know until December.

I sure hope Nintendo can keep the momentum going in the coming months, but it's not a guarantee.

Acutally, world wide, nintendo is #2 in hardware sold.  Since the price drop, Cubes have been moving off the shelves in a manner not seen since the launch of the system.  The Price drop combined with a strong holliday lineup should result in a very good holliday for nintendo.

Sales of Nintendo GameCube Continue to Surge
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!
