Technical Question from Newbie
« on: November 16, 2003, 01:21:53 AM »
Hi all! I have just entered the world of Gamecube by purchasing the Mario Dash pack a couple of days ago. Anyway, I have a technical question, seeing as my new 'cube doesn't seem to be behaving itself. Everything is okay, until I play Metroid Prime. Several times, while I have been playing MP, the system has crashed with a message saying "an error has occured, please turn off power and check the instruction booklet etc....". This has not happened with any of the other games I have been playing (Mario Dash, SSX3, Zelda).

... could this be a problem with the console, or could it be the Metroid Prime game. The last time the system failed in this way, my memory card got wiped, so something is definitely wrong! Grrrr!

If it's not happening with other games normally it's a fingerprint/mark/something wrong with the disc.  Give it a good clean.  Other people will know more then me though.  Only got my cube just over a month ago as well.

Also..  Since I've had my cube a few times say that my mem card has been currupted and needs to be formatted.  I just power off the system and reinsert the mem card and all is fine so don't belive it.  Not sure why this happens.  I do have a 3rd party mem card though so thats probably it.  If I can find one of those 64mb USB mem cards in Australia I'll snatch it up.  I'd love to be able to backup to my PC.

Metroid Prime is notorious for crashing often.

'specially at the Chozo Ruins West hallway.. right?

my hypothesis (which is probably wrong) :

it is because the game is constantly loading, so the smallest problem creates a domino effect

yea
I'll shut up now...

Personally, I had no problems with MY copy of M.P. but It's well documented in these forums that im in the minority, lucky I guess. If yours is really bad, take it back and get a new copy.

As far as I know, Metroid Prime crashed only in the original release, although the current copies could still have the problem. You should probably start by calling Nintendo technical support- they'll definitely replace your Gamecube or your copy of Metroid Prime, especially since you just bought them.

Hm...I have the original and mine did crash. Looks like the only improvements that they made is that they TELL you that it crashed when that fact is blatantly obvious because there's noises and nothin' is happening. Way to go Ninty!
