Malfuntioning Controller ^^;;
« on: November 15, 2003, 06:26:10 AM »
Woo, okay...Um, hi. I am a proud owner of a Gamecube, hehe, and though I love it to little cubic bits, I'm experiencing some difficulty with my two controllers.

The problem is...when you turn on the Cube to play a game (with the controller/s plugged in, of course), it'll act like you're pushing either up on the control stick constantly (the black one...*holds it up for a visual*), or right (*holds up her spice controller*).

Er, needless to say, this prohibits most effective gameplay ^-^; The controllers work about 30% of the time, and once you get them to work from the start, they don't relapse until you restart the Cube. I'm a patient gal, and really don't NEED to fix this (I...guess...), however, if any of y'all know a nice way to correct the problem, I'd appreciate it much (and heart you forever! ^^). Thanks for readin'.

One of my controllers does that very same thing.  It works just fine if I reset it by pressing all the buttons during gameplay, but it's an annoyance all the same.  Personally I think it's because of the extended use that controller had to put up with.

My personal solution was to go out and buy a Wavebird.  I only use my spice controller when I have more than 2 people playing.

Same thing happened to my black controller.  Like Ninja said, reset the controller.  My only problem is mine goes back to acting up after an hour or so of use, so i stopped playing with it and bought a new one.  It was the only controller i used for 2 years, so maybe its wear and tear.

*had no freakin' clue you could do anything by pressing all the buttons* O.o...It works now. I could hug you, Ninja! I've been trying to get these things to work again for nearly 6 months! I don't mind pressing all the buttons--Besides, I'm without excess money, hehe, no Wavebird for me.

Ya know, I think Nintendo may have stepped down on the durability for the GC controllers...I mean, my N64 controllers have been through more than 5 replays of Ocarina of Time, as well as countless throwings, beatings and bitings (...yes, bitings...It was this glitch that you had to walk up this ledge REALLY slow-like and...), due to my and my brother's frustration. Now, I haven't yet subjected my GC controllers to any abuse, nor has my still short-tempered little brother. Do y'all think they could have made the controllers more lasting?

The only problem I've had with the GCN controllers is the Z-button on my WaveBird.  Most of the time the game doesn't even recognize that I'm pressing it.

Actually, I went through 2 N64 controllers, and I have only been through 1 GCN controller so far.    The N64 controller's stick would become unbearably loose after playing the console for a long time, and Mario Party would kill the controller like you wouldn't believe.  Somehow I think that all my wear and tear is about equal to any short tempered little brother you might have.

But I am glad that I was able to help.  It gives more precise instructions in the instruction book, but I find that holding down all the non-analog buttons does the job, so it really doesn't matter what the correct sequence is.

Well, from this, I can certainly conclude that I indeed own OMNI-N64-CONTROLLERS! Mwahaha. Feel their wrath! ^-^ Oh, ick, except the Mario Party one, you got that right...(Rotate the control stick as FAST as you can, children! O.o)...Meh, I s'pose every controller's different, and has it's own special limits...Except my omni-controllers. They are infinitely powerful. Be afraid.

While playing Metroid last winter my c stick gave out.  It started sending the signal that it was always pushed forward and caused me to die in the phazon mines when the game started getting a little difficult.  The reset configuration would only work for a moment before the stick would start freaking out again.  I bought an orange one after I had cooled down from my controler induced death and began the game again from where I had left off several months later.  The controllers in the mall at EB on the cube are slam worn out worse than the N64 sticks were in the stores back in the day.  Sure the cube controller may work well, but it has some serious issues with lastibility.

Well no matter what console the controll sticks break down  sooner or later. (RIP indago controller poor thing went through millions of smash attacks in melee). My wavebird controlls sticks are fine but are a tad bit loose.

I had an xbox controller that did something like that.  It sucked playing Halo.  Nobody belives you lost because of your controller, till they play with it themselves.

My wavebird has been through a lot.  It has numerous nicks in the plastic, the control pad, if not used in a while, sticks and I have to kinda break it in.  The on/off button sticks.  And ocasionally, the C-stick isn't as smooth as I'd like.  There's lots of visibl dirt around the Y button.  But it still functions fine.

Now another wavebird I have.  That thing didn't like to work with brand new batteries in it.  It's newer than my junked up one.  But when I play, it's almost like there's a lot in interfence.  Nothing fixes it.  So I use my junked up one.
Both $ony & now M$ appear to have been "using" the gaming industry to finance and prop-up their other industries which would struggle as stand-alone.

Nintendo's joysticks don't even have double functionality with digital clicking, but for some reason I find more broken Cube controllers than any system ever I believe.  Both of my N64 controllers are working as good as they were 6 years ago, but I've already gone through one Cube controller due to a malfunctioning joystick.  I also see a lot of worn out joysticks on Dreamcast.  The reason I don't ever see that many worn out joysticks on PS2 or PS is because the joysticks are so pathetic that everyone uses the d pad.  I like the xbox's joysticks, I just wish they had angles.

Wouldn't you be able to reset the controller the same way just by unplugging it and replugging it?

You can reset the GameCube controllers by pressing and holding X+Y+Start at the same time for a few seconds. You don't need to press all buttons. Also, if you're holding the joysticks when the GCN is powered on, the joysticks will be reset, which will cause them to move by themselves. Avoid doing that.

Lol. You have to know this sort of stuff, Ninja. Otherwise, you might lose an important Smash Bros or Super Monkey Ball game, and you're life won't be the same afterward.

I rather like your new avatar.

But the rules here regarding avatars are no bigger than 64x64 pixels, and no bigger than 20kb in size.  I'm sure that you broke at least one of those rules, although I don't remember your old avatar, which leads me to believe that you weren't MUCH over the limit.  I rather like the strictness here though.

But if you send me your avatar, I can resize it for you, and host it for you too.
