Need a little help
« on: November 08, 2003, 10:31:21 AM »
I am saying this now, I am one of the biggest Nintendo fans there is.  Don't be calling me a Nintendo hater/spammer because mine broke.  I have purchased every Nintendo system, convinced many others to do the same and this is the first I have seen of a machine not working.

Ok, so I bought a Gamecube on launch day.  It was Indigo and it worked perfect.  It glitched a little during Metroid Prime, but it was already past the one year warrenty period, so I ignored it.  I would take my Gamecube with me to parties and such, as I even have a bag designated for that purpose.  At one of the parties though I went to convert a PS2 fan *he had never even heard of Gamecube before then* and figured I would woo him with F-Zero, Metroid, and Soul Calibur 2.  All of which I had on hand.  The problem though was, I couldn't get a game to boot.  The G would spin and say that I don't have a disk in the drive.  It really made me and Nintendo look bad.

Here's the deal though.  I have been around here long enough to have read about Nintendo's awesome customer service, and I would really like to know the how abouts to contact them.  As I said earlier, my Gamecube is obviously past warrenty and I am a broke college student and can't afford even to get it repaired.  I would like to know, from those you who have done it before, how exactly you went about getting your warrenty extended.  Any numbers and names would be extremely helpful.  Thanks for your time.

In every Nintendo product there Nintendo phone number for customer's service. Your metroid prime might just be a glitch since some copies has the glitch. Usually Nintendo offers to repair Cubes free of charge they even pay for shipping just flip over your cube and there should be a number, also look in game manuals, in the back of gameboy's and gameboy games or go to nintendo.com

Yeah, if it was only Metroid Prime, I guess I could cope.  The problem is though, I can't load any game anymore.  Animal Crossing to F-Zero, none work.  I emailed them from the email address they gave on the site, and all they did was direct me to the site.  That worked.  I then called them number they offered and I got was mockery.  It really wasn't all that customer satisfactory.  "We have never extended a warranty.  Well, mabey a week or something."

I know that isn't true, and for the people who did have theirs extended, I was asking what exactly you did do.  For the dedication I have had (I still have my Virtual Boy for example) this really just feels like a slap in the face.

I get what you're saying MattVDB.  The same thing happened to my first black generation Gamecube, which I bought right at launch date.  About 1 and a half year later, I bought another Gamecube for my nephews, which they usually leave at my house (which I'm guessing would be the second generation).  So now I have 2 Gamecubes in my household.

Anyways, when I got my copy of Metroid and heard about the glitch, I wasn't too worry about my Gamecube or the game being affected by this problem.  I have always trusted Nintendo, from previous experience except for the NES days.  Boy, was I wrong.  When I first encounter the glitch for my Metroid game, I quickly memorize the exact location in which it took place.  I took the game, placed it in my nephews' Gamecube, and tried it there.  Guess what?  Nothing happened.  I tested it over and over again.  Yet it didn't freeze up.  10 out of 10 times it didn't freeze up.  But when I took it back to my first Gamecube and tried it out at the same exact location, 6 out of 10 times it froze.

My theory on this whole mess?  Well, I know there is a slight minor flaw with Metroid because of others who have encountered it, but it also requires a Gamecube flaws as well to simply trigger an overall freeze up effect.  I continued to play Metroid on my Gamecube and it never froze up again.  It only happened to me in that one particular part.  After I finished Metroid, I began to use my gamecube for other games.  The freezing glitch never affected me again, until I got my copy of Zelda Wind Waker.  Oh boy, was that game unplayable.  Every time I enter a new arena, it would say, "Disc Error" or something like that.  I tried the game on my Nephews' cube and nothing happened.  Therefore, I was convinced that my Gamecube had a problem, which I refused to when I was playing Metroid.  I blamed it on the software like so many others.  I was in denial.  It was a Nintendo product for crying out loud!  It's not supposed to break down!  As the years passed...err...more like months I learned how to cope with the lose and look forward on the days ahead.  Guess what, it's finally here!  I'll be getting another GC shortly with the Zelda bundle coming out soon.  I hope it is Platinum.  It better be Platinum!  I hope you can do the same.

Oh, if you are curious of where the freezing part was, I don't quite remember anymore.  It has been a while, plus I have bad long-term memory.  So, you're not alone.  I have been there, but I have been over it.  You should do the same.
I am me and you are you.  We walk the path of Nintendo and so we are brothers.  All hail Miyamoto, our god, the heavenly father!!!

When my GameCube broke down, it was near the end of my warranty. I was lucky I called NOA! Anyway, I don't think you can extend the warranty without paying. It looks like you will have to pay to get it repaired now. It shouldn't be too much to repair it. I think before it was $75 to repair it without your warranty, but with the price drop, the repair fee should be cheaper.
