The new wavebird is out. It became incorporated into the orig.

No new colors yet. I thought there was but guess not. Maybe check out the digital controlers for GBA player. I think the controller still works for games that don't use analog but don't take my word for it.

Here's what you do for a new color wavebird: switch out the led for a different color. change the dongle's too. It will be a subtle but powerful modification.

I wish it was Gold instead of Platinum. It wouldnt make much sense but it would look better! I wouldnt mind a red one either. Or of course an Indigo one would be good to match my Cube.

"...change the dongle's too."

Pardon my ignorance, but what the hell's a "dongle"?

For those hardcore gamers out there with wavebirds, how many times a month do you need to buy new batteries for the thing.  This is my only gripe about it.  If it was rechargeable I would have bought it a long time ago.

jdub: Why don't you buy rechargeable batteries instead? That "Don't use rechargeable batteries, might explode" is mostly scare. None of my Gameboys ever blew up and I'm using nothing but rechargeables.

"Dongle" usually refers to a device used for copy protection in high-cost software (3D Studio MAX, Maya, etc). The thing has to be plugged in or the software won't work. Dongles can also carry encryption keys that protect your data from other people.

battery life?  Well, I don't play as much as all of you might, but if you don't want to buy rechargables, use them new E3 or T3 batteries things.  Don't know what they're called exactly, but they last an incredibaly long time.

well, I have replaced mine once and have had one since about when they came ouot, looking at about 5 to 10 hours play a week, i think there starting to run down again thow (the odd button press is missed).

I beleive the reason they avoid using recharges is they leak easier than regualr batterys, and the warranty doesn't cover it...

A battery leak is no fun, its smelly and that residue is bleh and its not fun scraping it if it hardened (it flakes fast)

Yeah thats the problem I have with rechargeable batteries.   They leak too much. It seems the battery life is pretty good so maybe ill buy one.  I know as soon as I finally break down and buy one nintendo will come out with a "New and Improved rechargeable lithium-ion waverbird remote access flip top device".  They always do.  GBA anyone?

you all must be using some seriously lame rechargables.

here is what you do , go to your local rc car or plane hobby shop, get rechargables from them.  then  you will get years of enjoyment from them.

hell  if you get  yourself a 4 pack you can always have a set chaged while you are charging the others.

one day i might do that myself, but regular alkalines seem to last so long i don;t see the need.

a new metallic blue would be nice as far as colors go.
