Help Out a Ninja...
« on: October 08, 2003, 07:01:37 PM »
I am mainly looking for two pieces of advice right now.  What I need are people who listen to music, and people who buy computer hardware.  (sounds easy huh?)

1)  I have need of a good pair of headphones.  I am willing to pay up to about $30 CAD, which is about $20 USD.  It needs to be something that I can pick up from a department store though, as specialty stores aren't to be found around these parts, and I am not about to order something like this online.  I am not looking for top of the line headphones.  I just want something that sounds decent and won't crap out on me when badly abused.

2)  A GOOD online computer parts store.  Having a price that's $5 less than the competitors isn't really an issue here.  What I need is a RELIABLE online retailer, who gets the latest toys in a timely manner.  Just so you know, I have my eyes firmly set on the marvelous Prescott CPU from Intel, and I would really like to have one when it comes out.  I would REALLY prefer a Canadian store, but US stores that ship to Canada for a reasonable price would be acceptable.

My thanks for help with either of these problems.

PS:  I know about Pricewatch.  I don't like it.

I'm not a huge PC buff so I can't help you on number 2, but I can tell you what headphones I use...Here at school I grabbed these MTV clip headphones and they turned out to be pretty good...I also have another pair of heavy-duty ones that cost me 25 bucks where I can't hear ANY background noise...Can't remember the brand though...started with an A I think...I'll check back this weekend

For the computer store, I have used directron.com a buinch in the past.  Parts have always come on schedule. and their customer service is awesome.  There is a web site called resellerratings.com which has customer service scores and stories for onine stores.  I used it when deciding whom I was going to buy from.   A couple other sites that just came to mind include newegg.com, and mwave.com.  I have some others back at school on that computer, I will check to see if anyothers are good.

I have to replace headphone all the time, they keep breaking.  I don't really think I am rough with them or anything.  I don't know.  I had a real nice pair cost me like 15.00 and several months later they stopped working in one ear, so I yanked the cord out and broke it even more.  teach it to stop working on me.  So my brother gave me his (same kind) and now the speaker thinking in one ear likes to come loose so I had to price the case open and fix it.

If you're a fan of earphones on PC (not for me), I have to suggest Sony *insert gasp here*. I was listening to some TEAC headphones which died, and then I used the Sony ones. Whoa! A million times better.

But I have no idea about headphones made by Sony. I have a Logitech one, not bad, but there's probably better ones around.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I might be going uptown later on today to pick up a set of headphones.  I'll try for some expensive Panasonic or Sony ones from what I gather.

As for the computer store, I will check that out later.  Thanks for the advice Berto.

Grey Ninja I can post some canadian computer sites but I have only experience from buying from one of them and it was directly(not online).

Here are the sites:
-http://www.canadacomputers.com/mail.html (which is the store I mentioned above. I actually bought from them the ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB Retail ($489 CAD) much cheaper than anywhere else, and also the WD 120GB 8MB cache ($154 CAD)

For your headphone needs go here:

ThePerm its just a pity it doesn't have subtitles.

ThePerm, thanks for the advice.  I will check that out at my earliest opportunity.  In the meantime, I must watch the final episode of Scrapped Princess.

Caliban, thank you VERY much for the sites.  Exactly what I wanted.

I have a friend who is a rather hardcore computer modder who gave me a few good Canadian Sites.  But I am here asking for help again, because I have decided that I would really like a new monitor.

I want an LCD Monitor with either a 16 or 20ms response time, is no smaller than 17", and has good color and brightness.  Price isn't much of a concern as long as it's not stupidly expensive.

I have heard some good things about this monitor, and I am thinking of buying it.  If someone has, or knows about a good monitor that fits my specs, or has any experience with the monitor in question here, I would like to hear about it.

Thank you.

Newegg.com <------ Best computer parts store on the net- it's where I bought all the parts for my computer. VERY good prices and VERY fast shipping- their normal delivery is as fast as a lot of places rush. I would definitely suggest you at least check them out.

Yes Mouse Clicker, I am familiar with New Egg, but they are US based, and only ship to the US, so I don't really think they do me a lot of good.

They don't ship to Canada? I thought I remember them shipping to Canada. Well that sucks- what's the big deal about shipping across the border, anyway?

Well, us Canadians have a tendency to get grumpy about having to pay double what it's worth by the time customs gets through with it, and we don't really like having to wait a month for our products either.  Basically, my own personal policy is not to order things from the US, as I don't care to pay duty.  New Egg is doing the smart thing I think.

Anyways, MONITORS!  Anyone have any info?

About where to buy monitors? My monitor (purchased from NewEgg ) is a Hitachi 17" that cost about $100- if you want flat panel or LCD, they're considerably more expensive. My monitor does it's job just fine.

doh.... nevermind... I can see this thread is way too long.

Ah well, can't expect people to read the latest post all the time.    How about we just forget the whole thing and talk about hentai?

I just went downstairs to play some SSX, but I happened to notice that The Simpsons was on.  I checked the guide to see what it was about, and MARGE GOT A BOOB JOB!!!!  I decided to watch that instead, and boy, let me tell ya.  It was well worth it.  Who let the jugs out!?  DOH DOH DOH!  Marge let her jugs out!  DOH DOH DOH!

Meh, it's an old one, although good considering how last season went. I believe the season premier is this Sunday, so let's hope they do something good.

Heh.  I don't care how old it was.  It was the first time I saw it, and that's what matters.    I was waiting for something like that for a LONG time.  Damn that was good stuff.

It reminded me of a joke that my Social Studies teacher back in high school told us.  He said that one of the all time worst luck cases would be if you were Dolly Parton's baby.... but you were a bottle baby.

But that would SERIOUSLY suck.  There are just some injustices in this world that no amount of crying would fix, but I assure you that if I was that baby, I would go on hunger strike, and cry until I could cry no more if I was denied my birthright.

I doubt a baby would know enough to even care. Come on, did you think about stuff like that as a baby?

Yeah, one hot momma!  I agree.  And do you seriously think that babies don't know what a good thing they have going?  Look at how hard it is to wean a kid.
