Zelda Bonus Disc ver. 2.0
« on: September 10, 2003, 08:30:28 AM »
You won't even have to wait for the Wind Waker sequel to get it.

According to Game Informer Online, Nintendo of America will release a second Legend of Zelda bonus disc this holiday season.  It will be included with the purchase of a new GameCube system and may also be available through other offers.

The tentative contents include ports of The Legend of Zelda (NES), Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES), The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64), and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64).  It is currently unknown whether the Master Quest of Ocarina of Time will be included again, or whether any of the other games will be enhanced as was Ocarina on the first bonus disc.  The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is presumably not being offered on the disc because it is available on Game Boy Advance.

PGC can confirm that this disc will not include the GameCube version of Four Swords; it is still unclear how that game will be released, whether by itself or as part of a similar compilation disc.

This is too good to be true. Where will I find time to play all the games? =)

If I have to, I will but a GC and give it to my younger brothers for Christmas.

I never finished Majora's Mask and now is a good time to go back. And you can never get too much of the original Zelda.

Maybe the Four Swords game will be part of at version sold a retail, and this version will be a pack in.

This news is great, but does this rule out a preorder bouns disk for Wind Waker 2?  What would they put on it?

I'm thinkin' Oracles? And a toast to Nintendo - when we saw Nintendo was turning Zelda into T**ra's T**ckers!  Yes, it's so disgraceful I won't say it.

Hopefully this'll be and item for Nintendo Club members to buy. Doubt i'll be able to get a Gamecube just for this.

Nintendo said themselves that they are not going to be giving out demo discs for every game, so I wouldn't get your hopes up for a WW2 bonus offer.  The save battery from my LoZ NES has gone dead so I could really use this disc

this is excellent news to hear, Nintendo will now really get the focus from people who own a ps2 or xbox and thinking 50/50 or less about adding the cube.

There's certainly no techincal problem in Nintendo doing SNES emulation on the GameCube. It's not like they'd have to write the thing from scratch - they could just port snes9x, which is open-source and designed for portability, as well as being a pretty decent SNES emulator. They might have to do some optimisation work to get 100% speed, but it's not like it doesn't run on other PPC machines, so a straight port would probably run surprisingly well on the 'cube.

Yeah, just compile SNES9X using CodeWarrior for GC. The GC CPU is an IBM PowerPC, pretty similar to ones you find in Apple iBooks, and those machines run SNES9X just fine..

im pretty sure nintendo would allready have their own code/would write their own code instead of nicking the emulation beit zsnes or snes9x, what sort of embarasment would they suffer if people found out?

I know it's technically possible to emulate the SNES on the GC.  That wasn't my point.  My point is that Nintendo has displayed no interest in creating or adapting one for the GameCube.  And why would they?  Nintendo and its 3rd parties wouldn't want gamers to think they're entitled to free or discounted SNES games on their GameCube when publishers could port them to the GBA at full price!  Even if LttP weren't on the GBA it still probably wouldn't have been a part of this compilation.

By similar logic one might say the Zelda N64-GC conversions suggest Nintendo will not be releasing a 3D handheld in the near future.  Of course that deduction would be misguided, as Nintendo's 3D handheld (if it ever appears) probably will not have all the buttons most N64 games demand.  On the other hand, the GBA doesn't have all the buttons most SNES games demand either, so I could be wrong...  Heck, we've seen Donkey Kong Country ported TWICE to Nintendo handhelds (thrice if you count the somewhat original Donkey Kong Land), so anything's possible.

I think we need to start a petition to abolish the capslock button. It causes nothing but problems and I can't see a legitimate use for it.

Actually, you're not supposed to type in all caps.  's againstthe rules.  My bad.

And if the rule was for no capslock, we'd have a few smartas*'s that would say, "but I used the 'shift' key"

I'll go edit my post now.

I meant abolish in a physical sense, i.e. forcing keyboard manufacturers to omit the key. I often hit CL instead of shift which deselects all vertices except the one I click next. It's REALLY annoying. Also, I heard a lot of calls to the tech support are caused by people not noticing capslock while typing their password. Maybe I'll set an example here and pry out that button-of-troubles from my keyboard, just as I did with those damn standby buttons.
