3rd Party Blues
« on: September 01, 2003, 04:06:08 PM »
Did anyone ever notice how few good 3rd party games there are. It's pethetic. 3rd party developers need to start making quality games and not generic crap like they usually do. Now don't get me wrong I'm not completely against 3rd party developers. There are some good 3rd party games like SCII and Time Splitters II. Usually 2nd and 1st party developed games are the highest in quality. So to all the 3rd party developers out there, make high quality games and don't settle for the same crap that you could get anywere. If you would like to include some good 3rd party games that I didn't mention feel free to reply.

i think the bigger problem seems to be lack of good third party games on gamecube, at least to me. while ps2 and xbox's biggest titles are all basically third party(with some exceptions), all of the gamecubes are nintendo made. it really isnt an attractive platform for third partys to release games on becouse i, like most people here, will usually pass over most third party games for just about any nintendo published title.

i dont really know what the solution for nintendo is. obviously they want their own games to continue to sell well, but they need to get more sales for third party games on the gamecube. it seems that nintendo has definately been taking steps to improve their efforts recently though. the collaborations with third partys like namco and sega, and the deal with ea are good starts.

as for good games, here are the third party games i own:

tony hawks pro skater 4, ikaruga, resident evil 1 & 0, super monkey ball, skies of arcadia, turok evolution, nhl 2003 and hitman 2.

most are great games with the exception of turok. i bought it for $15 canadian brand new, and i thought i was getting a decent deal. i was wrong. it would probably be an all right game if it wasnt for the horrible loading times and consistent freezing but as is i just cant bring myself to play it.

Man, what are you smoking? This is one of the best years for 3rd party games.
-Capcom's PN03
-Capcom's Viewtiful Joe
-LucasArts's SW:RS3
-Namco's Soul Calibur 2 (which you mentioned)
-THQ's Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy\
-UbiSoft's Prince of Persia
-Namco's I-Ninja (which I think looks great)
-EA's LOTR: Return of the King (building on an already great game)

Next Year:
-Square's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
-Capcom's RE4
-n-Space's Geist (some say Nintendo bought n-Space, but I have yet to hear an announcement)
-Capcom's Killer7
-Namco's Baten Kaitos
-Namco's Tales of Symphonia

And many more that I've forgotten at this point.

Yeah, it's like 99% of third-party titles aren't worth touching anymore.
That's why I like the Gamecube. It has enough first/second party support to keep me happy and now it's getting quite a few third-party titles that are actually really good too. The PS2 and even the XBox may have more third-party support but when it comes to QUALITY third-party titles, the Gamecube is way ahead of the XBox and approaching the PS2 IMO.

What are you talking about? Nintendo does have great third party support.

The only 1st party Nintendo games I own are F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda OoT/Master Quest, Metroid Prime, and Super Smash Bros: Melee.

My 3rd party games are Godzilla: DAMM,  Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Sonic Adventure: DX. Soul Calibur 2, SSX Tricky, and Ultimate Muscle: Legends vs New Generations.

I plan on only getting two 1st party games this year coming and they are Pikmin 2 and Super Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

My List for 3rd party games are Wrestlemania XIX, Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, P.N.03, Star Wars: Rogue Squadren 3, SSX 3, Viewtiful Joe, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and The Simpsons: Hit and Run.

Ok everyone seems to have something wrong here. Most of you who repiled(not all) think that a third party game is one that is not made be Nintendo. This is not true. There are also second party which means an exclusive game like FFCC(Final Fantisy Crystal Cronicals) which is made by Square. This is a good game I agree but it is not 3rd party. So if you would like to tell me any 3RD party games that I have forgot please fell free to mention them. This is pretty much a reply to Kennyb27 and Greedy8899. Sorry to the rest of you.

First party games are games that are made by Nintendo internally.
2nd party games are games that are made by a company who's majority stock is owned by Nintendo.
3rd party games are games that are made by a company not owned in any way by Nintendo.  Not just not exclusive.

2nd party games don't have to be a company with the majority of stock owned by nintendo.  yes, that is true.  but what is also true is, a game developed between nintendo and in conjunction with a third party= it being a 2nd party game.
F-Zero GX is 2nd party
Star Fox 2
etc etc

I would like to disagree. That just makes it a 3rd party title that is exclusive to the system because of a contract. The party the developer is depends on ownership. So technically unless FF: CC is list under Game developers it will be a third party game.

As for the topic third parties by and large make generic garbage games. There are only a very few gems out there. Just take a look at the PS2 and now at the the Gamecube, there are simular percentages of bad third party games to good ones. (Because of the user base.)
Stupidity is lost on my. Then again I'm almost always lost.

Not all the games can be easily categorized.
F-Zero GX is essentially a first/third party titles because it was developed jointly by Nintendo and Sega. MGS:TS is kind of a first/second/third party title because Nintendo, SK, AND Konami are involved in it.
Though I think you could probably get away with just calling F-Zero GX a third-party title because it's MOSTLY by Sega and MGS:TS a second-party title because it's MOSTLY by SK.
It shouldn't really matter to us anyway what they techinically are.

Well this topic isn't meant to bitch about exclusive games, beacuse they (on average are good) This is to bitch about multiplatform games like EA games and ACTVISION. They really need to improve they're games. Thanks for the input I know see the error of my ways and like all good ninja's who are disgraced i will kill my self. So I was actually looking for good multi platform games. There aren't many so everyone would like to know what multi platform games that you like. Also you can come here to bitch about multi platform games you hate. Like me, I hate most games made by EA and Activision.(most not all)So reply if you want to.

Actually the only multi-platform 3rd party games I own are made by EA.  I have Lord of the Rings, Madden2002, Madden2004, and Harry Potter.  I enjoy all of them.  LOTR and HP are two of the best movie licenses I've ever seen in a video-game.  Now does that make them an absolute classic or must-buy. Certainly not, but they succeed in many elements where other games don't.  As for Madden, it is simply the best football sim out there, no questions asked.
