In the new issue of GMR, Perrin Kaplan speaks on the role of Nintendo in respects to online gaming.

"You're making the assumption that behind closed doors we're doing nothing. We have a huge R&D group, and it pays close attention to everything, all the time. There's a lot of work that continues to go on in every fashion, wireless and everything. We continue to work on all aspects [of online gaming] on a constant basis."

"At the time when we do something, you can be certain that it will be done in an A-plus manner, whether it's on this system or the next."

Did you honestly assume Nintendo was sitting on their hands watching online gaming play out?  The reason they know it is not profitable right now is because their Research and Development team told them so; they didn't just guess.

I remember in past-recent interviews where Shiggy and Nintendo Pres. Iwata said that they weren't fully ignoring online capabilities. They said that the current structures (XboX live and Sony letting publishers do their own online support) isn't too feasible in the long run. Nintendo will get there, but it will be on their own terms.

One kooky idea I have if they made a Pokemon online. The current Pokemon model is BEGGING to made into an MMRPG; I'm no real fan of Pokemon myself, but if they made it online, I'll be the first to sign up (First Westener anyway )

all i ask of nintendo for online is a way to hook GBA's up using a USB connection, that would be awsome

You know, it might be good thing for Nintendo to keep Cube Offline, i mean, what improvements(besides graphical) could f-Zero, mario Kart or others have on GC2 if they were Online on Cube? I think they will make some new ideas in them, and make it Online, now that would be sweet.

Frankly, I gotta agree with Djunknown. Currently, Pokemon is perfect for MMORPGs! Instead of walking around in a huge online world fighting monsters, you're walking around in a huge online world capturing them and training them! It's not completely new and innovative. But it's still quite different from what it is like currently and such.
