Playcube no longer available?
« on: August 28, 2003, 08:29:28 PM »
Yea, I dunno if this belongs here or not, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I can pick up a Playcube cord?  I've checked stores all over the place online and they ALL say it's out of stock or discontinued.

I mean, hell, if there's a store near someone and they have some, could anyone let me know?

SCII owns me in all ways imagineable, but I'd really rather be playing it with a PS2 controller....

Thanks all.  I hope someone has an answer for me

That's exactly the same thing, and exactly the same price, so you might as well just get one those. The PlayCube seems to be no longer available, and isn't on Nyko's website anymore either.

I'm pretty sure the PlayCube was just made, sold, and discontinued.

So online stores can't just order more of them whenever they get a request for one, like they do with some items. You have to find a store that actually went and bought some of them while they were available.

However, when it first came out, all the pictures I saw of it in the reviews looked like this:
http://www3.telus.net/ragnar14/playcube-01.jpg

When the GameBoy Player came out, a lot of people noticed that the PlayCube didn't work with it.

But then someone on these boards found a PlayCube, and it worked just fine.

Then I bumped into both the squared, purple one seen above, as well as this rounded, black one:

The black one works with the GameBoy Player.

I suspect that the black one was made more recently, although I'm not sure if it was specifically redesigned to work with the GBP.

So I think that sometime after the first PlayCube was discontinued, Nyko restarted, and then discontinued, another run of the PlayCube (and redesigned it too, while they were at it).
Poor people should eat wheat!
I'm about to go punk up some 3rd parties so they don't release games on other hardware, ciao!

If you wish to save some money, I have remapped the SCII controller setup in a way far easier to handle for normal beings.

B button : A (horizontal slash)
Y button: B (vertical slash)
A button: A+B (character specific stuff)
X button: K (kick)
R: A+G (throw 1)
L: B+G (throw 2)
Z: G (block)
C-stick: Every direction is soul charge. No long neccesary, as it is now far easier to do a soul charge by tapping A and X together with your thumb.

It makes the game far easier for me. Try it, if you like.
