ITS COMING!

Hope to see you all making the switch come August 28th! I'll be done and graduated in a new -normal hours- job, so I'm planning to be back in force!

Yes, the game will support save transfers from the 3DS Gen. Anyone planning to restart from scratch or just pickup where you left off? I'm tempted to start over myself.

The o my proper way to suffer through a Monster Hunter game is by starting from scratch.

Sorry, I meant “play.â€

Every other Monster Hunter game, I tell myself that this will be the one that gets me into it.  I think being on Switch could actually do it for me, depending on where my backlog is at launch.

This is pretty much word for word my thought process here. I've bought Tri, 3G, and 4, and never really gotten into any of them, but I feel like this may be the one.

It does help that this is coming off of 4U's "most accessible yet" iterative improvements, but the other unique aspects of the gameplay that have been added with the Generations moniker (combat styles, mostly) allow players a lot of freedom and variety in the role they want to play in a party.

I like the sound of that.  I almost bought 4U because of that "most accessible yet" aspect.

Haven't finished 4U yet so I'll probably let this one slip by. Unless you have a regular group to hunt & gear grind with, guild quests becomes a frustrating chore.

Yeah, there are 3-6 folks on here who have played together for 3U, 4U, and even Gen. Being on the new hit console may bolster those numbers a bit as well.

I've been dumping a lot of time into Monster Hunter: Worlds....anyone here know the core differences in gameplay between the Switch one and that one?

Its almost exclusively Quality of Life features. It wouldn't be unplayable at all to switch to GenU. Things like gathering are a bit more of a pain. The monsters don't get into turn wars, they both hone in on the players (though they can injure each other in the process).

The general play in World is smother, but GenU has a lot of variety with all of the different hunting arts.

I think someone who adored World will be happy with GenU as a follow up title. It is significantly more challenging, and once you are a fan of the series, you will be able to go back to something like 3U/4U/GenU and appreciate the various content available. And there is A LOT of extra content in GenU. Highest monster count in the entire series.

DISCLAIMER - I've not played World, but I;ve read up a lot on it and the opinions of the fans who have played both and this all seems to be a general consensus.

BUMP!

Who all is getting this and wants to start forming hunting parties?

I got it coming day 1, but won't get to dig in until the weekend. Anyone game to play that first weekend?

I was planning on getting it but honestly the Diablo announcement makes me a lot less interested in this. I'm in the market for a loot grind game but Monster Hunter has never really clicked with me and I'm less inclined to give it another go knowing that's around the corner.

Congrats to all you Monster Hunters. Part of me wants to dip my toe in but I think it would be better to have MHW be my first experience with the franchise.

So because I transferred my save from generations I'm pretty much just smack dab in the middle of the single player mode and I reached Village High Rank.

Also I have a fighter palico who is just getting all sorts of part breaks for me between Big Piercing Boomerangs and Giga Bombs.

BTW, it just occurred to me: Why isn't it called Purrowler mode? It's not like Capcom to leave a purrfectly good cat pun on the table like that.

I decided to restart from scratch so spent the weekend "catching up", but I'm kinda regretting the decision now. But having spent a weekend playing I feel I'm too far into the rabbit hole to back out. Maybe I'll check it out my old save tonight and decide based off of how close I am to catching up.

New save I am 3 star village and just hitting 2 star for guild.

I'm at 7 star village and 2 star guild. Git gud scrubs.

It looks like I'll be scraping by through High Rank Village using my Low Rank Narga Armor. If Narga isn't in Village High Rank for whatever reason we're going to have some problems because Evade Extender + Critical Eye + Speed Sharpener is really good.

I'm at 3 star for both village and guild. Also finished my preferred LR armor with the Bumblepumpkins.

Started taking the train into work to save gas and time as my work pays my fares and the time is the same, so I'm using that time to chip away at all the little quests. Going to try and 100% the quests at the least with this version.

Think I'll try the Glavenus Bow since I have natural +10 Fire with my armor and I could gem it to +15 easily.

So Alchemy style on the switchaxe works very well for people like me who like to use the sword and axe modes interchangeably. Basically pressing "a" around two or three times while in axe mode will switch you to sword mode mid combo and pressing X a few times while in sword mode will switch you back. It's really interesting.

Anyone have an interesting hunter art setup? I have on Alchemy style Tempest Axe, (buffs attacks made from axe mode), demon riot (buffs attacks in sword mode) and energy charge (refills the sword guage and gives an affinity boost) so basically I cycle from one attack boost to the next. All of them are SP arts because Alchemy Style has access to SP mark 2 and SP mark 3 which give a few perks like Health regen and I can get a steady supply of earplugs from the Alchemy Barrel.

I've been pretty boring, sticking with Bow and Adept style. The Rathalos Bow is underwhelming compared to previous iterations, so I've been sticking with the Astalos bow and going full-on status dealer with paralysis and poison.

I tried Arial style, but I'm just not feeling it.

It also feels like I'm having a harder time cutting tails, as in 4U I was an excellent bow-tail cutter. Though I also notice that people are much more clumsy/clueless/rude than in the past. Multiple times I -the gunner- are the only person aiming for the tail and the blade users are all over the place.

Coupled with the typical uncouth LR online random behaviors like insta-posting, and other hunters just not caring, just feels like the community is less savvy this time around. Last night I had multiple people crash my lobbies and post their 1/2 star urgents without a word, and others just rolling with it. One of them even had the audacity to sit at base or out of range twice in a row. I started pinging mid-quest and they finally came to help, so I just kept my mouth shut, but its almost like people are more apathetic. Perhaps it is the lack of easy communication options (really miss voice chat from Tri/3U); or maybe I'm just too wound up and snotty.

I should really try to get people on r/monsterhunterclan or the game's Discord, but I'm so irregular with my available online play time that I'm not sure the effort is worth it.

I can't have an automatic preset to go off when I get killed off either. I put #fakenews for that in 4U and it was the greatest thing.
