Nintendo to switch packaging for GBA games...
« on: August 14, 2003, 11:52:29 AM »
It seems that Ninty has decided to make the switch to DVD case packaging for their GBA games.  It's not for sure if this is to cut costs or just for convenience.  I personally think a DVD case is a tad big for GB games, but it is convenient.  The casing should appear on U.S. and European shelves come this winter.

Sweetness! I wonder if they'll release a smaller DVD case 'cause there's a lot of extra space in those things. Seriously, they could just squeeze it in something like the Memory Card holder on GCN cases. Regardless I'm happy. FF:TA in an indestructable box!

Found more info on the cases.  They will be similar to(or exactly the same as) the GB Player case(which is also the case for GC games in Japan).  So they will be the perfect size. ^_^

Is anyone besides me not happy about this?  I've always like the unique nature of the GBA cases and have just gotten used to them over the years (since the original GB).

Do any of you think that they are doing this because they actually intend on going to disc on the new GBA?  This way, when they do switch, the packaging would be consistent.

I was thinkiing exactly the same thing.  But what size do you think the discs will be?  GC size!?  Hopefully they will be a little smaller. ^_^'

I am so happy about this. I have never liked the cardboard boxes since they aren't as durable. All of my N64 boxes are beat to hell and some of my early GB boxes have some tears and wrinkles. I think it's especially important with the GB games since they are supposed to be portable and the boxes they come with don't last that long if you are throwing them in a back pack or something.

Am i the only one who doesn't save the cardboard boxes?  I don't think Nintendo intended for them to be storage...just packaging.  All I have is all of my little carts in a pouch thing.  I am excited about having a good way of putting them on a shelf.  I just hope you can buy empty ones for old games.

That does seem rather big, though. Something similarly clamshell but the size of the old GBA boxes would've seemed a little more portable.

It is smart if Nintendo's doing it as a transition step to get people used to the idea of them for the next GB, though.

Anybody think maby this is to try to stop theft?

I work at a Sam Goody store and they have the GBA games inside of the original boxes but with a hard plastic covering, kinda like for the music cds that they have.  And anywayz every once in a while i will find a GBA game stolen!

OMG it pisses me off when that happens.  The last time i noticed it Madden 2004, Kirby, and Sonic was stolen!

So if they change it to a dvd case then this might help some of the retailers that have this problem bcuz those GBA boxes are hard to protect against theives.

I swear if i saw a guy trying to steal a game i will sock him in the fuckin b@lls!!!!!!!!!

My store uses empty display boxes, so no problems with theft.  With the exception of the occasional employee.

I'm in favor of these "mini-dvd" style cases.  Just as long as they are no larger than the GB Player Boot Disc Case.  That seems like a decent size.

This very good news! But I wonder...  will there be a way to get these new cases for games we already own? That'd be really sweet.

If i ever get my gameboy player, I'd kill for dvd sized gameboy cases...hell it would be sweet if some third party did it and made one case hold like 10 games. =P

thats crap your telling me under normal conditions a box would not hold up more than a dvd case.  What do you guys do with your boxes while the game is still inside?
