Thanks, I was getting royally pissed off last night.  Now I can fix it tonight when I get home.  I knew that my computers themselves weren't messed up, I thought it was MSN's fault, but thank's PIAC for posting this.  I had a feeling it was something with Window's like the whole messenger service thing that pissed me off several months ago.

We got about 300 calls at work yesterday from people with this problem.  It was just ridiculous.  People!!  Keep your computer updated through Windows Update!!  which might be a problem since the virus creates a DOS attack on windowsupdate.com  which is actually quite cool.

well thats a catch 22, need to use WU, but DoS attacks WU, so no go.  Stupid all around, i downloaded the patch I need at work today so maybe I won't have to go through the holw riggermarole (sp?) and disabling stuff.  If not, at least I know what to do.  XP is nice, but it's quite obvious that XP is not so great.

I have had my computer on and online for he last week straight.  Never have had the virus.  This update was available back in June if you used windows update.  It may be annoying to run, but it is necessary.  Oh, I have yet to reinstall my virus scan software since my hardrive failure last week too.

*note, hardrive failure not related to virus, damn you ibm

i run windows update, with the amount of security fixes in it i would be stupid not to, so i was probably clean before i got this patch, but i dont really keep track of what updates.

but the lesson here is, use windows updates! it is free after all!

I didn't go to the link so I don't know if this is the same virus I got 2 days ago.

MSBlast it's called, and it shuts down and restarts your computer every five or so minutes.  A royal pain in the ass if you ask me.  But the patch is out and all is well.

That's why I haven't posted in a day or so, but i odubt anyine has noticed.

That's because nothing is compatable with Macs... even the viruses don't like touching them.

yes, but MS could have done a lot better job of getting the word out.  I am a MSN subscriber and never received anything about it.  That was very irresponsible of MS not to let its subscribers know.  Windows Update is not enough if people, ordinary people don't know that there is a security flaw in the operating system.

I knew you weren't PIAC, I was just ranting that MS didn't do a good enough job.  They have MSN, Hotmail and probably other avenues to get the message out and I have MSN and Hotmail and never received word about the flaw.  I didn't know what the hell was happening until I saw you had posted this topic the next day when I got to work.  I will be more diligent with Windows Updates, even though I have slow 56K connection and some of those updates are rather large.

"it onyl effects xp/2k/nt"

We have Windows ME, is that the same as 2000?

EDIT: Never mind. I found out.
If the graphics are bad, I'll ignore them.
If the style's been used before, I won't care. I don't get sick of styles.
If the story is weak, I'll make up my own.
I only care about gameplay.

God, how can you live with that operating system.  It is so unstable.  Worst OS for crashes MS has ever put out.

If it doesn't effect ME then why is all the links I have been to, especially the ones to give the tool to remove the worm, have ME down as OS that it does effect?
