April-June quarter sales report is out
« on: August 05, 2003, 06:38:41 AM »
Only 80,000 sold in 3 months?  Nintendo stopped making new Cubes at the beginning of the year!  Holy cow.  Wont start making new ones until the fall.  Yikes.

Theres a typo, its actually 800,000. Just look at NPD sales, there is not a single month this year when Cube sales are under 80K in US.

800,000 actually seems decent for a traditionally slow quarter for the market when Nintendo didn't have many big games released anyway.
Mario Golf, FZero GX, and Soul Calibur 2 featuring Link should give the Gamecube a notable boost in the next quarter and, of course, a ton of Gamecubes will be sold in the final quarter of the year thanks to Nintendo's own Mario (multiplied by two!), Pokemon, Kirby, and the Pikmin with some help from some third-party gems like Viewtiful Joe, Metal Gear Solid : Twin Snakes, and Rogue Squadron III.

I dont really care about specific numbers, but what has GameCube sold altogether?

And with the great library of games coming out, nobody has an excuse to not buy a gamecube.. which genres are missing? All i can think about is maybe Dance Dance Revolution. Still almost every genre is covered by an exclusive game.. you like rpgs, try out skies of arcadia. Don't like skies.. wait a few months for Tales of Phantasia or Beaten Kaios. FPS are lacking on gamecube but pick up TimeSplitters 2. It isnt exclusive but Geist will be and it is out alittle after 2004.

GREAT GAMES ARE OUT + COMING OUT ! Every house should have two gamecubes

The only genre they are hurting in is RPGs. Skies may be good, I havnt played it since I cant find it for sale anywhere), but it is just a DC port. They do have some good RPGs coming out in the near future, so that is good news.

Nintendo just gets a bad rap. I mean if you go to BestBuy you can see GTA or whatever, and XBox has Halo and some others, then go to the Nintendo section and they have like 10-15 different games and three of those are disney "Mickey Mouse somthing", and "Donald Duck quack attack, or whatever it is called" and you think Kiddie system. Hell I see those games and I think kiddie system, and I know better, what should people who dont know anything think.

Actually, Wind Waker was released at the end of March, so it should have carried a lot of weight during that period. I guess the cel-shaded graphics turned everyone off, though.

This will probably be the slowest quarter for Nintendo out of all four. F-Zero and SC2 will lure in some so-called mature gamers, and Mario Golf's here to entertain the so-called kiddy crowd. And the two quarters following will simply be insane. However, 800K pretty much squashes Nintendo's hopes of 6 mil this fiscal year.

ummmm sales quarter 1= lowest sales of all quarters.
2003 fiscal target= 6 million
6 million - 800,000= 5,200,000

5,200,000 to be sold by the end of next March with 3 quarters to go...
(5,200,000 / 3 = 1,733,333)

so Nintendo only has to sell a little over twice as many as they did for the slowest selling quarter, for the next 3 quarters.  I believe they can do it and meet their 6 million target for fiscal year 2003.  Especially with a price drop. price drop
