Miyamoto and Mikami interview

Basically it says Shinji Mikami wants to work on a Nintendo franchise like how Sega worked on F-Zero and how Namco is working on Starfox, and Miyamoto confirms Metroid Prime 2 for 2004 on GameCube.

Mario Talent?
Isn't that a game on the 64DD?
Oh wait, it's called Talent STUDIO.
Hahaha.

You know, there's lots about Mario we don't know.
For all we know, he could be a moustachoid, low voice-sounding, plunger-toting, goomba-jumping, shell-riding, fire flower-shooting, pipe-warping, block-bashing, mushroom-eating, Koopa-bashing, Princess-rescuing, overall-dresser called.........

you know what would be nice- if mikami worked with denis dyack on a new game from silicon knights (like eternal darkness 2)
mikami is the genius behind resident evil and dyack has said that he respects mikami and his work a lot- he also likes resident evil
just think if those 2 were to work together- they could create the ultimate horror game
i call the big one bitey.

Of course, we all know that Gamecube will be ignored despite ALL these great games, cause Xbox will have Halo 2, and PS2 will have MGS3 and GT4.

Eternal Darkness sounds like a good game for Mikami to work on.  Let's hope we here more news of this soon.

And GCN will have Metroid Prime 2 and Resident Evil 4.

There are so many great franchises coming to the Cube exclusively next year:

Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime 2
Tales of Symphonia
FF:CC
Mario Tennis
Star Fox
Paper Mario(still only a rumor...Ninty better clear this up soon)
Super Mario 128(though who knows if it gets pushed back)

I honestly wouldn't worry about GC sales.

Eternal Darkness is NOT a good game for Mikami to work on.  RE coule be likened to a B horor movie where as ED is more like a Big Budget adventure. The last thing I want ED to turn into is some shallow version of it's self with terrible controlls.

I didn't say for Mikami to work on it himself.  Just to help SK make the game even scarier, which he is very good at.

I don't want scarier.  I can't even finish the Heresy! chapter in ED because it freaks me out.  It's thundering outside!

The games are COMPLETELY different.

Eternal Darkness is a psychological game, and doesn't rely on the cheap "zombie jumping through window" scare.  It is more subliminal, in that it is something that you will take home and think about it later when you aren't playing the game.

Resident Evil might be startling and stressful while playing, because of the high difficulty, and the cheap little scares, but once you are done playing, it's like "damn that was fun!"

I know the games are complete opposites, but there's no harm in adding some "makes you jump out of your seat" things now is there?  What licence would you guys rather see Mikami work on?

Resident Evil.

Eternal Darkness had one such moment in the game, and it was all the more powerful because it was the only such moment.  In Resident Evil, you EXPECT the zombies to come jumping through the windows.  In Eternal Darkness, you don't.

Very true, after finishing Resident Evil for GCN I really appreciated the game more, I don't like the controls, but the story is top notch if you ask me.

I hate to burst the mario talent bubble, but a bunch of sites had the interview up as well, in english
and they all gave credit to the french site who did the interview with a corresponding link to the french site's interview...

btw the resident evil controls are perfect, making them 360 would suck, check out my last post in the resident evil control topic to see why, (its based on impressions using 360 control in LordoftheRings2T, which uses the same control scheme when changing cameras that RE would have to and already has used before in RE2 for N64)

"Eternal Darkness had one such moment in the game, and it was all the more powerful because it was the only such moment. In Resident Evil, you EXPECT the zombies to come jumping through the windows. In Eternal Darkness, you don't."

EXACTLY. There was only one part inED that made me jump (I think we all know which part that was), and jesus, it scared the living $#!t out of me!

Personally, I'd rather see Mikami work on a brand new franchise for Nintendo rather than working on something they already have, though. And considering the way the big guys in the industry like to foreshadow, I wouldn't be surprised if we get an announcement soon about Mikami working on a Nintendo game.

i agree, i want something new

and i don't think they're going to make another zelda, other than the windwaker graphic's engine sequel currently under development.

plus we have tetras trackers and four swords coming to GC, do we really need 4 more zeldas on GC?
i think 3 more is enough

It actually would be neat if, similar to the Oracle titles on the Gameboy, there were two Zelda games in development for the Gamecube together. The first would be the internally developed and already announced Wind Waker sequel with young Link and cel-shaded graphics and the second would be a more realistic (but not TOO realistic - think Lord of the Ring movies) Zelda game from Capcom/Mikami featuring adult Link. The second would of course, be sort of a continuation of the first and aimed at the teen/adult audience while the first would be for all ages like all the previous Zelda games.
I'd actually really like to see that. I LOVED the cel-shaded style of Wind Waker and wouldn't mind (in fact, I'd prefer) if it became the standard style of Nintendo's future Zelda games but, on the other hand, it would be interesting to see a darker more mature spin of the series. It wouldn't have tons of gore or anything. It would just be A LOT more intense, violent, and scary which is why Mikami would be PERFECT for it.

There'd only be two BIG problems. Nintendo's Zelda game would be unfairly labeled the "one for kids" and, worst of all, it would APPEAR as if Nintendo was giving in to all the idiots who refused to like/play Wind Waker just because of the cel-shaded graphics. I can already hear them gloating about how "Nintendo learned from its mistake and is finally getting a clue". Bastards!
So, actually, this probably isn't a good idea and I concur that an original game with franchise potential would be better.

another problem would be if the older style zelda killed the WW sequel in sales.
some people would claim "look they beat miyamato at his own franchise!", especially fanboys of sony/microsoft

another problem would be if tetra trackers and four swords sold poorly because
there are two much better looking and more advanced zeldas out, in addition to WW itself.

now if Mikami and Nintendo put their creativity together and created a brand new franchise it could be huge!  Everyone wants a new franchise from Nintendo that rivals Zelda, Metroid, and Mario- I believe they could do it.

Then, if this franchise does well, just imagine a sequel to it ready for N5's launch!

or if Mikami and Nintendo can't collabrate right away because they're both already busy making games,
imagine if they made the adult zelda game people want and release it as a launch game on N5,
that would be so huge.

Wasnt Mikami making Red Dead Revolver for Capcom? but Capcom killed it? he can just make Wild Wild gunman for Nintendo instead
