Princess Mononoke ... Princess Zelda ...

PM is an anime movie (which I own the dvd of, hooray ... sadly I only own 4 anime DVDs ... darned Akira costing 50 bucks everywhere ... anyway ...) and for the sake of not releasing any spoilers about it, there are little 'Forest People' who are the keepers of a secret forest where the guardian of life lives. Anyway, they look surprisingly similar to the reincarnations of the Kokiri kids ... I'll find a picture later.

Did anyone else notice this?

Yes, I've noticed that. The uniquely different designs of each Korok's face is reminiscent of the random designs on the Kodama, and both make little rattling noises too.

Beyond Princess Monoke, Hayao Miyazaki's influence extends throughout the application of Zelda:WW's animation, with the common aim of evoking a child-like sense of wonder.

My Neighbor Totoro is my fav anime film.

I aggree, but the forest things in Princess Mononoke looked inspired by stereotypical aliens. However, Zelda was missing the decapatations and missing limbs!

Edit: HEY! I just remembered Shiggsy mentioning in an interview for Zelda: WW that he found Hayao Miyazaki's movies to be an insperation! Wierd coincidence, isn't it?

I've heard this, but aside from being small and both making rattling noises, I see no real similarities. Koroks have leaves, different general look (skin and body shape), and they have no clicky heads. But yes, they could have been inspired by PM forest spirits.

I'm surprised that nobody has ever mentioned the similarities between the witches in Spirited Away, and the witches in OoT/Majora's Mask.

A lot of the great movies/books/games will often pay tribute to one another in simple ways.

Zelda has loads of influences. OOT was practically written off Greek mythology. Pegagues boots that make him hover, much like the horse that guy rode to fly to medusa. Medusa was a Gorgon, who could turn people to stone. Gorons on the other hand ate stones.

Boomerangs are Aboriginal weapons.

This isn't a bad thing though as their is no such thing as true originality.

Grey: That is one of the first things I noticed.

I was thinking of renting Princess Mononoke tonight, but I might not. I might get Cowboy Bebop the movie because I've heard many good things. I might not get anything and choose to play video games or read a book, or...whatever.

This is kinda a little off, but has anyone noticed that the artistry in Samarai Jack and Wind Waker is almost exactly alike?....Same Artist

Yes, for a long time in fact. But I haven't mentioned it previously cuz discussing Wind Waker's style always attracts the usual "garbage" that I don't like reading.

Back to Jack, both are strikingly similar in color palette, illustrated emotion, physical movement, and general character design. Remember those times when "Kid Jack" was shown? You could swear he was Wind-Waker-Link's long lost cousin or twin -- head shape, body proportion, and nearly identical eye designs. The more I see either of Wind Waker or Samurai Jack, the more alike they seem, there are even times when Jack would solve his problems with Zelda-like ingenuity, in addition to his kenjutsu.

i mean, it might be the same person who illustrates that cartoon who did the character design for wind waker. Yeah, the episode when they flashed back to jacks child-hood is what made me realize that they look exactly the same, samarai jack and link that is.

Your'e right about them looking the same. Samurai Jack and Link that is.
But I'm pretty sure they are done by different people. Just look at the faces in Samurai Jack and you'll notice the difference.

I just watched Princes Mononoke. Darn good movie.

The forest people things...it's not the looks that remind me of zelda, but the sound they make is IDENTICAL to the korok's (in my ears).

About Samauri Jack, I see the similarity, but I don't think it's by the same person. Did anybody look this up? i'm too lazy...

I know you weren't intending it that way, but communism isn't really a necesarrily bad thing, its king of like a way of making sure things are equal amongst the people, although with communism, the way it is imposed by the government isn't always necessarily fair for the people. If you've ever read a book called "The Giver," it reminds me of a communistic society, but with magic powers.

So basically, communism is for the lazy and dumb.

I was just making fun of myself, really. when I was little, me and most people in my class thought communism was bad. but as we learned more about it, we learned that it was a good idea, but not really possible to excecute succesfully.

I think The Giver is purely scientific, except for the Giver himself. That part's a bit odd. I don't like communism (not just existing governments, but the concept itself). But that's just me, and my opinions are probably really bad

Communism is at best flawed. While its basic idea of a utopia where everything is fair can be appreciated it will

never work. It relies too much on the honesty of people in positions of power.

Communism would be good if it actually worked. But thats impossible because everyone would have to be completely corruption-free. Otherwise, communism is usually a political terror-enforced dictatorship with a few communist ideas thrown in. But that is just in most cases, because communism can mean many things.

XD! I noticed this, right away. My "anime friends" and I all flipped out when we saw all the little korroks with the clicking sounds.

Aside from the little forest people, Ashitaka himself looks an awful lot like Link, wielding a sword, bow&arrow, and even riding a red steed. The only things missing are the hat and Hylian shield. I'm almost positive that Nintendo took themes out of this movie, considering how popular it is, and that it came out just over a year before Ocarina of Time. Princess Mononoke to me seems like the closest thing we'll ever get to a Zelda movie.
