Really? The PS4 is already in the 80-90 million unit range?
Oh.
Oh no, wait. That's not even remotely true.
What are you talking about? You think the PS2 sold 80-90 million units after 38 months? Because that's not even remotely true. At this point in their lifetime, PS4 is slightly ahead of PS2 sales (actual sales, not shipments), but both were in the mid-50 million range. This doesn't mean that the PS4 *will* outsell the PS2 - just that it's on track to do so, given how well its done so far.
Yeah, I think someone might be messing with Evan_B's account. Either way, you are, of course, right. The PS 4 is selling crazy fast.
Yeah, but the point is that the PS4/Pro will have to sustain the momentum for a very long time (what the PS2 did), which it may do if the incremental hardware updates continue.
On the one hand, the updates will help to keep PS4 relevant, and on the other hand they will succeed in milking sales out of core gamers while also inevitably leading to very affordable older models of the PS4.
Seems like a win all the way around, as everyone will find a PS4 at a good price.
