FF:CC... Best GC RPG?
« on: July 27, 2003, 02:16:02 AM »

Well, this is my first post ever. Tell me if it's okee doke. Anyways.

How come there aren't very many posts on FF:CC? It's should basically be the best GC RPG for a long time! Doesn't anybody care?! I do... oh well. I mean, FF:CC is a good reason for us young 'uns to get a job to support our hobbies. I just hope the controls, story, and multiplayer gameplay makes up for my hard work. It should make out to be a pretty good FF game. The only bad part... four GBA's and connectors for multi... poo in the face! Now someone share some info on this game, please!

There are tons of post on FF:CC, you just have to actually look. The search function is very useful for that sort of thing! And I don't think it will be the best GC RPG for a long time either... SoA and ToS will most likely be better than it and maybe even Baten Kaitos

it really seems that FF:CC is a big dissapointment judging by impressions and japanese reviews so far
i dont think ill buy it

On the other Hand im very excited about Tales of Phantasia, love the looks and the fact that is realtime action. It also must be huge because it uses 2Discs.

the reviews in japan thus far on ffcc have said that the game is a blast in multiplayer modes and is really a lot of fun
they said that in single player modes there isnt enough story and it is mostly a dungeon crawler
some reviewers have bashed it where others have said it did what it was supposed to- which is make a good multiplayer game

tales of symphonia is on 2 disks mostly because there is a lot of voice acting and of course the hand drawn anime cut scenes (which are great)
most tales games take around 25-30 hours to beat so this one should be no different
and even baten kaitos is on 2 disks- mostly for the fmv and voice acting as well
i personally cant wait for both tales and baten- both are looking like excellent rpgs
i call the big one bitey.

Wow. I'd hate to be told by some guy 7,000 miles away that a game sucks, and actually take it as gospel.

So far there's been two japanese reviews (the game doesn't come until Aug 17th or so).

Dengeki's reviews were 5, 6, 7 (avg 6) from it's three reviewers.  Flaws were plot and not enough skill developement (which is key to most RPGS).

Famitsu gave it 33/40 which is solid though Famitsu also gave Courtside 2002 the same score awhile back.

But yeah, it really doesn't sound like it's going be a smash hit.  It's going end up like "Unlimited Sega" which got so mixed scores it wasn't funny :0.

Same either loved it or some utterly hated it.

I will be picking up Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, as it's already convinced me that it's worth my money through various means.  It's by no means my most anticipated GCN RPG, but I believe it will be a solid gameplay experience.

Besides, it's got Penny-Arcade's stamp of approval, which is enough for me in a lot of cases.  Like PGC's, I trust PA's reviews.

I was hoping it'd be a good multiplayer RPG but if you have to play with GBAs...but that doesn't make sense that you would HAVE to. It's unfair for those of us, like myself that don't have a GBA. I hope they change that. It's still pretty long in the works so it could change. I'm looking forward to learning more of TOS. That could be good!

Typical. I usually save my judgement on games until first-hand experience, not minor words of people I don't even know or trust.

Yes, same here, I'd rather get first-hand experience. If I'm really into a certain series, I'll love it no matter what! But now everybody's convinced me to buy ToS and Baiten Kaibos... or whatever. It's some weird Japanese name. And that GBA thing sounds fun, but that'll be a drain of money outta me. It's great games like those that inspire jobless gameplayers like me to get a job!

I am especially looking forward to this title because it will cost me $10 at most (for another GBA/GC cable).  See, I was planning on buying tihs game, but I have some friends that said they wanted to buy it.  SO, I get Mario Golf for all to play, and they get FF:CC for all to play.  It's perfect, them, and my older brother (and me of course), make a perfect foursome.

They're the same family that bought PSO, and we played that offline for hours upon hours.  So there's no doubt that we'll play FF ALOT.  They finally got ONLINE in PSO, so if offline could keep us interested since release, online should hold us over till FF:CC.  Woop!

That's just like my game-buying strategy.  Some games like Mario Party, Timesplitters and especially sports games are meant for multiplayer so my friends and I usually get one copy of the game between all of us.

Crystal Chronicals is going to be awesome. I have doubts about the best though. There are alot to contend with. I'm looking forward to it as well as Tales of Symphonia. Another good anime style rpg. Can't wait for either of them! Is it true that you HAVE to use the GBAs to play multiplayer? That seems cheap. Nintendo should make games less reliant on the GBA. I want to go to animal island WITHOUT having to go buy a GBA. Sigh.

As far as we've been told, GBA multi is a must. It was necessary in Japan and probably will be in the U.S. too. They are claiming that the massive delay is for slow localization. There's some speculation that says it's being delayed because its original release coincided with the next PS2 FF.
Those of you in Optimists Anonymous can keep on hoping it's delayed to give multi–player a go over so we can use controllers. Who knows? Maybe all your hoping and wishing will come true...

take this as you will- i am not sure if this is true or not yet since i havent tried it but...
from what i have heard about crystal chronical- you can have people use controlers and there is a trick to do it for multi
from what i heard you choose the # of players from the menu screen, then you plug one gba into slot one- create you character, then unplug the gba, move it to slot 2, do the same, and so on- at the end, plug regular controlers into the slots and press a on all of them to finish the creation process and enter the game
the only problem is the fact that the gba screen shows you all of your magic and hp status- so you are going to either compensate taking out magic in the game for regular controlers, or know how to use magic properly on a regular controler
as i have said- take this as you will- i dont know if it is true or not
i call the big one bitey.

Personally.....I've always been a fan of Squaresoft. I've got great faith in what they do. Even when their games "suck".....they're leagues above other developers. I'm just happy that they're back to developing games for Nintendo systems. I'd rather have them than have not.
