Predict the Wii U's Holiday Lineup!
« on: April 27, 2016, 08:35:55 AM »
Ready those tumbleweed gifs!

It's simple. We know NX is launching in 2017. We know Zelda UNX is delayed until 2017. So what's Wii U's lineup for fall/holiday 2016? Well, let's make a game out of it!

- I predict Pikmin 4 is the sacrificial lamb taken from the NX launch lineup and placed back in the Wii U hell hole of 2016. I mean, it's already a Wii U game.
- Also, with nothing else to localize, this is finally the year NoA gives us Mother 3, with a special boxed edition featuring a disc with all 3 Earthbound games plus an art book of some kind.

There, I just saved 2016 for Nintendo. Check please?

Keep in mind Nintendo expect to sell only 800k Wii U's this year. So basically "nothing" is also on the table.

EDIT: Also on the table? "The NX annoucement"

Animal Crossing for Wii U?  Might be a way to reuse the assets for the Amiibo Festival game to quickly churn out a "full-fledged" game to launch for Wii U before year-end.

Other than that, I expect that Wii U is just going to just die on the vine for the balance of the year.  Maybe some good bundles this Black Friday along with a price cut finally just so retailers have an opportunity to clear their shelves.

Paper Mario Wii U & Super Mario Sunshine HD.

Best bet is definitely more Game Cube up-ports, if anything.

Maybe a mini-game compilation?

I was thinking this same thing.  Uprez City Folk, add in amiibo festival assets, take the Happy Home Life mechanics, plug in some obligatory amiibo support and blam.  Churn out a buy-the-numbers Animal crossing title.

Also: Smash 4 complete edition.

My selfish hope is you're right about a Mario Sunshine HD remake.  I never got the opportunity to play that one.

I think nothing beyond what's already announced.  Why would Nintendo say that Zelda will be the only playable game at E3 if they had other Wii U projects in the works?  This E3 would be their last one before release so if something like Pikmin 4 made its debut why wouldn't it be playable?  Now Nintendo is nuts so I can see them holding off for some private Nintendo event but I don't see them showing off Wii U games at their NX debut event.  I'm preparing my expectations for nothing.

Yeah, I hate to hate on Nintendo- well, actually, that's not true- but they done fucked up this year. I assume Wii U will finish with Paper Mario, and they'll have the power of Pokemon to hold up the 3DS.

If there are actual price cuts this Black Friday, I may finally pick up a Wii U.  My son's been begging for one to play Splatoon.

Just do some more HD remasters if you can't be asked to support a console to the end like you didn't do with the Wii as well, but unlike the Wii, the Wii U is a disaster, and that's being kind.

Given their recent willingness to go outside the company for remakes/remasters, yeah, that seems like the likely scenario. Super Mario Sunshine HD sounds like a good prediction. With 2016 being Super Mario 64's 20th anniversary, I think there's a decent chance they go down that route as well. I would selfishly like to see Skyward Sword HD, but between the controls and fear of Zelda burnout if they released three console games in the span of a year, there's little chance of that. I can't see them doing absolutely nothing though. There's gotta some unannounced stuff for Wii U, even if it's far from earth-shattering.

Ah yes, will Nintendo actually think of dropping the Wii U price?  Somehow I figure they won't but with this being confirmed as its last Christmas you figure they could squeeze a couple impulse buys out of a price cut to those that are curious in one or two titles.  If they lack new games couldn't a well advertised price cut provide some incentive to pick a Wii U up for Christmas?  Get one cheap so your kids can play Pokken!

And the Animal Crossing mobile app is supposed to interact with Animal Crossing games, and I doubt they're patching it into New Leaf or Happy House Arrest.

AC it is, then. Paper Mario and a Fatal Frame retail print in October seems to work. Plus alt amiibo (male WFT, female Robin/Corrin, original outfit Wario) and the Callie/Marie set for Splatoon.

I'm going to go ahead and rain on this Animal Crossing parade by saying that Kimishima made the point that there were still unannounced games coming for the 3DS. He did not say the same for Wii U.

Games like Mario Kart and SSB have a lot of DLC.  Maybe Nintendo could release retail GOTY editions of those games that have all the DLC included?  I don't have SSB so I would totally jump on that.  It's not super exciting stuff and of no use to those that already have the DLC but you see releases like that on the other consoles all the time.

Since Nintendo are projecting only 800k in Wii U system sales, it looks like they still are not planning to drop the price.

However, they still project 15 million in software sales, which seems like a high estimate to me with such a barren release schedule. So maybe they're still planning more software price drops, such as adding more Nintendo Selects titles. I don't own every Nintendo-published title, so I hope they add some of the ones I still want.
