From what I remember, the rechargeable battery lasts about 3 years, and when that runs out new ones really aren't too expensive. In that time the new gba probably will have come out anyway. As for the SP battery, I love it. It only takes a couple hours to recharge and I don't have to constantly buy new batteries for my gba. The only problem I could see with the battery is if you're going on a trip to somewhere with no outlets.

I checked to be certain of the battery life.  It does say several years or approximately 500 charges.  A new battery is about US $15.  And like Molobert said, the new GBA will probably be out by the time your battery dies for good.  I would also like to add that the charged battery does last quite awhile.  It is about 10 hours with the light on and much more with it off.  I have a SP and I have not had to charge it often.  If the outlet charging does become an issue, there is an adapter for your car.

And you can bet the number on the box is conservative, too, as almost all of Nintendo's numbers are. Lithium batteries generally last a very long time and don't have the memory problem nickle cadium batteries have (where after a little while they charge less and less).

ummmm .... i charge mine everynight before i go to bed ... does that mean i only have approximately 500 days till the battery dies ? When i play, I dont play till the battery dies ... it may be for an hour or two and then ill let it charge while i sleep . Should i charge it only when my battery dies or is what im doing now considered OK ?

You should wait till the batteries die, but I don't think it will do any damage if you don't.  But I still think everyday is too much.  If you play you GBA SP alot, every other day.  But I charge mine, like, every other week.

The little green light changes to red when it has 1-2 hours left in it.

You should be able to charge the battery whenever you want, since it's lithium and doesn't have the problem nickle caidum batteries do where they last for only a few minutes if you recharge irregularly.
