I wrote a book. Free until Wednesday.
« on: January 20, 2016, 02:38:34 PM »

I wrote a screenplay back in 2008. So, I have just about 0 connections to Hollywood. Well, there is Caterkiller. He'll make it big someday for sure.

Anyhow, because my screenplay collected dust for years. I decided to publish it on Amazon. I made some changes. Added a chapter.  I uploaded it to Amazon. It is ready to download. My only complaint is the formatting is off since Amazon converted it to their format. I'll slowly get that fixed though.

It's out in the wild now. Catch it.

That's pretty cool, Perm!  Good DIY ethic!

Plus when people ask what you do you can say you're an author and it's technically true.

I'm in the process of writing a book, myself. What made you want to self-publish, Perm?

I wrote it as a screenplay. So, it's in screenplay format. Not very many people had read it. A few of my friend's wives sister's had read it, but not my friends. My friends are about as far away from self starting DIY ethic as possible. Their thought process is "you do all the work, and then we'll reap the rewards" It's hard to say if the movie will ever get made considering my level of support. I've been reading books on guerrilla film making. When I wrote it I didn't write it as a low budget movie. It could be made as a low budget movie, but its not a movie that takes place in a single setting.

But anyhow, I wrote it in 2008. 8 years ago is a long time for nothing to happen with it. I thought I might as well publish it. So far I have had one customer according to reports. 2 if you count myself.

I should make the outline more out there.

This is a book that is a compilation of all my friends craziest stories like:
That time I was hanging out with a girl and she got drunk and **** herself and it got all over my car.
That time back when we used to prank call in junior high.
That time my friend's cousin hid a camera and tried to film him about to bang a chick and getting caught.
The two times I won Gameboy SPs out of a stackup arcade machine.
That time my friend thought he had gonorrhea and it turned out to be something else entirely.
A discussion of the weirdest porn we ever watched.
That time my friend tried to play king of the world on the back of a truck and went rolling when we took a swift turn.
Et Cetera

One of the reason's why I went to Amazon was a friend of my brother started to make a living off of his writing. He writes short erotic novels. He did well for himself. Pulling in 20k a month.

I put up a free promotion for it. It will last until I think Wednesday. I'm trying to get it out there. Sorry Shyguy, I'll make it up to you. Although you do have the honor of being the first buyer ever.

It sounds interesting perm, I am in the process of trying to finish my novel so I might come back and ask you some questions on the self publishing thing if I decide to go that route. I work in the media business so I have publisher friends I will show it to first but I am open to all possibilities, and I also enjoy creative freedom doing something yourself affords.

Well the way I thought of self publishing was just putting my book online. I didn't think about it in the publisher line of thinking. I thought about it as I wrote a book and I can put it here. The process is pretty seamless. My only problem with it so far is the way Amazon formats your book. I'm thinking about taking my book turning into a pdf and the converting it into jpg images and then using the comic uploader just so I can get the format of the text the way I want it.

What genre is your book in?

Oh and could everyone do me a favor and bump my thread on Reddit.

One thing to keep in mind with self publishing vs actual publishing is that you have to find way to get people to read your material. A real publisher will have the means to advertise. I have to advertise most likely to get people to read my book. I don't want to pay for advertisement. I wish it would just spread like a wildfire. I don't really know what to do to make my book go viral.

The one I am furthest along in is a crime thriller told in flash backs and flash forwards. I don't want to say much about it without giving too much away. It deals with a man who goes crazy and turns into a serial killer. It is more the journey how he got there than the actual crimes though.
