Shenmue 3 to include 1 and 2?

Approximately one-year and ten months since Shenmue II was released and we are gradually getting the development of Shenmue III moving! But, currently it has not been decided for any console. We would like to make a special edition of the game, which will include the rest of the storyline. If possible, we would like to have it start from Chapter 1 and develop it as Shenmue III: Special Edition. A Special Edition of long-awaited Shenmue III. (Shenmue LOVE ?)"

Well, since the Dreamcast is no more, and Xbox owners didn't seem to like it that much...  There's a chance I suppose.

But I am willing to bet that if Xbox doesn't get it, PS2 will.  Sega is known for their lousy business sense.

Before Shenmue 2, Sega was figuring out their new "platform agnostic" stategy, and deciding what series would go where. Sega commented that they felt the Shenmue series would be a best fit on the GameCube. But then Microsoft paid Sega to make it for the XBox, and even paid them to cancel every other version, including the American Dreamcast one.

One of Microsoft's head up's (I don't remember exactly who) recently mentioned what everyone suspected was true. When a company buys the exclusivity of a game, they have to pay more money for it that the maker could possibly have earned on all the other platforms combined.

He mentioned that it's extremely expensive (even when the game is a success, which as far as I've heard, Shenmue 2 wasn't), and that Microsoft wasn't looking to be doing it any more, now that they're semi-established.

Considering that the XBox already has Shenmue 2, and it came with "Shenmue: The Movie" as a kind of recap of Shenmue 1, the only reason AM2 would want to include 1&2 with number 3 would be if it's going multiplatform.

Well then Microsoft obviously doesn't know how to spend it's money- first they buy the exclusive rights to a game that sold rather poorly on the Dreamcast and even worse on their system, then they spend $375 million on a development company that's not profitable.

I think you're on to something, but I don't agree with it going multiplatform. It does, however, sound like AM2 is going to develop Shenmue III for another system (I believe PS2 though)

It would make more sense PS2, but Suzuki did say he wanted to see the series go to Gamecube (which in a few interviews, he stated he was quite fond of that console). Of course, since MS payed Sega and blah blah, it went to Xbox.

But, Suzuki made Beach Spikers exclusive to gamecube and is making Virtua Fighter Quest on it.

So maybe it could happen...

I'm not even sure if VFQ is still in development with all the games that AM2 has announced these past few weeks.

As for Shenmue III, I hope they give options for either Japanese or English voice acting because Shenmue II's voice acting was horrible.

Glad to hear Shenmue 3 is in the works.  I don't have an Xbox so if Sega decides to bring it to the PS2 or Gamecube, I'm one happy gamer.

If Shenmue 3 did include 1 and 2, then i would buy ten copies! I hope its multiplatform, but my gut tells me it will be a Xbox 2 or PS3 launch title.

What's with everybody already getting geared up for next generation? THIS generation isn't even 2 years old yet- we've still got at least 2 more yearsd to go before we start thinking about next gen.

And to think the Super NES lasted over ten years....

Anyway, I'd be willing to fork over extra for a special edition of Shenmue if it included all three, AND it was on GameCube. I've NEVER played Shenmue...

Huh what are you talking about?...Super Nintendo was 1990 to 1996, although they did at least sell some into 1997 and they still had them in stores in 1998....And the great games stopped by 96 with the last DK game...

I saw a SNES in the hotel I was at this summer. Well, it was the controller for the PPP (Pay per Play). So it sorta still exists in some shape or form.
I also saw a N64 in the other hotel. What's the name of the program, LodgeNet maybe?

I feel sorry for all the poor people who missed out on Shenmue for Dreamcast. it really WAS one of the greatest experiences ever. Hopefully this will be multiplatform so all can enjoy it the way it was meant to be.
