well ovbiously (It says press start in the top right corner through out the game for a reason) But you'd think Konami would quit being lazy and add 4 player support for the GCN build =P

I'm tempted to pick this one up for the co-op alone. I remember wasting way too many quarters in the arcade game. I second you on being lazy and not including 4 player. It's not hard!

There's no excuse for it not being 4 player.  There are 4 turtles.  There are 4 controller ports on both the GameCube and the Xbox, and I am sure there are devices on the PS2 to allow 4 players, and it wouldn't be that hard to add 2 more turtles to the screen.

The lack of 4 player support is an instant no-buy from me.  I don't care if it's the best game ever.  I won't support that sort of lazy bullsh!t.

The ideal company to place blame on though is Sony for only including two controller ports on the PS2.  Their arrogant disregard for what I consider to be an industry standard is why multiplayer games aren't as common as they should be.

i remember reading this in a magazine somewhere, along time ago. it was a sony exec of some description saying something to the effect of 'our research shows that people dont play multiplayer games'

"it was a sony exec of some description saying something to the effect of 'our research shows that people dont play multiplayer games'"

Well f*cking DUH!  They probably only did research with Playstation gamers who naturally don't play multiplayer games because that console only had two controller ports and thus didn't have many multiplayer games.  With that logic then Nintendo should never have put 4 controller ports on the N64 because multiplayer games weren't that popular on the SNES.

I think it's a proven fact that on consoles with four controller ports multiplayer games tend to sell pretty well.  Sony's whole attitude is a self-fulfilling prophecy.  They never give their userbase the option of playing multiplayer games and thus their userbase doesn't play them.

Very ironic that I read this thread.  Just last night my friend and I broke out the old NES and played TMNT: Arcade co-op.  If it wasn't for a bug in the game that wouldn't let us get past the second mission we wouldn't have gotten to play Tecmo Superbowl...wait, that's not a bad thing.  Anyway, back to the topic, I believe this will be multi-player and I intend to make full use of the option.

Of course it's going to be co-op. Basically, it's just like Turtles in Time for SNES just on steroids.

Me and my buddies grew up watching the old TV show, and we were so bummed out when we found it wouldn't support four players. We'll still get it though, since we loved the old arcade games.

Meh, I grew up playing all the Turtles games as two-player only. Turtles/II on NES, Turtles HyperStone on Mega Drive, Turtles in Time on SNES... Only two-player.

Know what? We often had a few people looking on. Taking turns on each level. Two people played, two watched and dissed. And hey, it was more fun than a stick!

Exactly.  Sometimes that's the best way to do it.

I might get this, maybe if some rich uncle that I don't know about dies and gives me all of his money.  I've always liked Ninja Turtle games, liked the stuff as a kid, so I might get this.  It depends.

Sometimes it is, but when you have a game based on a show featuring a team of 4....well, you get the picture.

The arcade versions (The games the console versions were based off of) had 4 player support. Konami is just getting lazy with this franchise.

Don't jump the gun yet about multiplayer. I have forgotten where I saw this information, but the developers sited that there were some serious technical issues with getting four players to work in full 3d game and not having nearly impossible to see what's going on. At least that's the semi-offical word.

A course a fixed angle in a side scrolling or semi-overhead perspective sould probably solve this, but the screens show that Konami are going for otherwise.

As for more speculative reasoning, I have read theories about the PS2's lack of 4 ports as the hinderance. I'm more apt to believe the developer, but considering how close Konami is to Sony, it wouldn't surprise that the game is being built with the PS2 in mind rather than supporting console specific features on each machine like some other 3rd parties have been doing.

egman, i doubt any developer who knew anything would say that. Look at Smash Bros. IF that doesn't convince you look at FF Crystal Chronicles, which is very similar to to TMNT....
And yeah PS2 is probably the base platform..
And Konami is not developing the game...

Well, he could be right.  From the screenshots I saw, the characters were much closer (thusly larger) than in SSBM and FF:CC.

If you look at the first shot you'll see that the overhead-ish view from the series is still there...I'm sure most of the shots released are picked out from zoomed scenes to show off the turtles, and of course the cutscenes would be zoomed.
And it's very easy to zoom automatically now that it's in 3D. In Turtles in time, the last TMNT in this genre, if you walked each character in opposite directions they would get stuck once they hit the screen edges. In smash bros if you do the same thing it will just zoom out to allow for more space on screen...it would be easy as heck to put this in, and heck it's probably in already.

Actually, 4 big turtles walking around would likely annoy me.  the SSBM and FF:CC characters are very small.  That makes it easy to fit 4 on screen.  The Turtles are not small, the enemies are not small, and it is a beat-em-up, meaning that there will likely be a whole bunch of characters rather than just 4 (SSBM).   What I wonder is if there will be an option to turn on "friendly fire" like in the old games, where you could also hit your friends.  That was a lot of fun and gave an extra challange.

gamefreak--The comment about the camera is not my conjecture but something that I thought I read about game sometime before. Maybe I missed read or was reading someone else's speculation?

Also, those examples you use have fixed camera angles--the media that has come out for TMNT leans towards a more fully 3-d camera. I guess we'll see know soon enough, but the main point of my post was that I felt that the tecnical argument was unlikely when we already have several examples of games 3-d games with 4 players, including those you mentioned. Considering how excited people fans would be to play as all four turtles, I wonder if most of the effort is beig placed on making the game look "sweet" rather than making a game that could draw upon all of the gameplay possiblities the TMNTs offer.

By the way, who is making TMNT?

"Very ironic that I read this thread. Just last night my friend and I broke out the old NES and played TMNT: Arcade co-op."

That's not ironic at all- irony has to contradict itself while in your case two things share something in common. That's called a coincidence. Can'y even use our own language.

Anyway, if there was supposedly a problem with having 4 characters in 3D, they should fix it. If people only recognized problems yet never did anything about them, no problem would ever get solved. Look at how Retro dealt with Metroid in 3D- pretty ingenious, if you ask me. I also completely agree with Ian- I won't boycott Konami (like they're going to reel from one less copy sold), I do hope they get off their lazy asses and put in 4 player support. And that's bull$#!t about people not playing multiplayer games- the best selling game for the Gamecube right now is SSBM, and that's almost purely multiplayer. Sony's gonna be shooting themselves in the foot if they only have 2 controller ports in the PS3- I can't tell you how many times I've been pissed off I couldn't play with three of my friends on a PS2 game.
