If Sega released Shenmue 3 on another platform then they would have to release the previous 2 versions so those new to the series knew what the heck was going on.  I agree with Ninja that it will stay with Microsoft.

The Sega Third Party rule dictates that a major release with a hardcore fanbase should always be released on the most inconvienent and inappropriate platform.  Therefore Shenmue 3 will be released for... the Nokia N-Gage!

I'm actually kind of surprised they're making a third Shenmue at all- I'm a HUGE fan of the series and was really bumemd out to see Shenmue 2 sold like 50,000 copies for the XBox and I thought I remember Yu Suzuki saying that unless they had some outside funding there would be no Shenmue 3. I guess they got the outside funding. As IanSane put it, Sega's going to be aiming for their foot yet again when they go to release it- I REALLY hope they come to their senses and either have it as a Cube or PS2 exclusive or have a multi-platform release. I NEED to play this game.

I bought Shenmue II like, a week ago, and it was quite a bargain - 20 bux new, and it comes WITH the Shenmue movie which you may have heard about (I didn't know it came with the game until the day I bought it).

I didn't like Shenmue 1 that much, but I'm liking Shenmue 2 a LOT more. If you doods have an XBox, give it a try, huh? I'll no doubt buy the third one...

Or if you get the Dreamcast version of SII from Europe or something =P

Im sure they'll slap it on PS2, if its not Sonic or Monkey Ball, its on the PS2.

I tried the Shenmue II for Xbox, but the voice acting drove me far, far away. Luckily, I played the European Dreamcast version before(who said Europeans gets the short end of the stick, eh?)

If SEGA learns anything from past experience, they will have this game as a multi release.

yeah they effectively killed the buzz for shenmue when they announced it for xbox...I remember so many Nintendo gamers craving it(alot of us n64 gamers had spent the extra 100 on a dc when n64 was running dry).
I played shenmue 1 and 2 on dc(euro) and loved them. What genre do Nintendo gamers love? Immersive action adventure gamres...what is shenmue? Immersive Kung Fu action adventure. The xbox fans basically saw the title and said MEH.

Let see... they cancelled Virtua Fighter Quest for GC, so I'm guess Shenmue 3 will be released on GC when hell freeze over or when pigs fly. Whichever comes first.

basically the shenmue movie came with the xbox game and it highlighted the events in shenmue 1
so technically you didnt have to play the first one to know where you are in the story- you just have to watch the movie

Actually in the DC Version of Shenmue II I believe you could tranfer data frome the first game to the second.

Unfortunately that cannot be said for Xbox

Although I humbley believe that Shenmue series would of sold dramatically better if it was on GameCube, Sega should learned by now damnit. they better not go for a 3rd on xbox, that's suicide!

Yeah, I bet.  Rolls eyes.

It's a cult game, which means there isn't a big market for this type of game.  It's a bit to SLOW-paced to hold the majority of games attention.

It's right there along side of ICO, another game that's overlooked by the majority.

To be fair, the game's only been released on the wrong systems. The Dreamcast just ddin't reach enough people and an RPG like Shenmue isn't the type of game XBox owners are looking out for. You're right that it's a cult game and will never achieve huge sales, but Sega could at least get their money out of it (cause they spent a LOT of money on it) and release it on a mainstream system with a wide array of owners, ie the PS2. Shenmue 2 might have sold better on the Gamecube since Nintendo fans are more into it's style, but I doubt the difference would've been drastic at all.

Guys, Shenmue III has not yet been announced by SEGA-AM2.  Rather, the website has been re-designed.  In other words, it is not official.  These websites just assumed that Shenmue III was announced due its website change.  Expect an official announcement in the following months, possibly September.

Fat chance.  At the Shenmue Dojo Forums, a member works for SEGA of America and said that Microsoft Game Studios has the rights to Shenmue III.

I won't tell you or anyone.  Play the games to find out!

I'm really happy and will jump for joy when SEGA gives the official announcement. Finally, there is going to be a sequel to the greatest game I've played!  *sobs with joy*
