Twilight Princess HD: Now with 100% more Amiibo!
« on: October 15, 2015, 12:57:55 PM »
With the recent reveal (and even more disappointing reality that Zelda U might become Zelda NX or be moved to 2017) of Twilight Princess HD, it's got me wondering what can be done with the game to make this new version more definitive than the original and Wii versions. I was also wondering what changes could be made to make the game okay or progress more smoothly. We've seen from Wind Waker HD that nothing is sacred- ship sailing and Triforce hunting as well as Miiverse integration and twin stick aiming were integrated. So, what improvements can be made to Twilight Princess, an already very polished and tight experience?

-Twin stick and gyro aiming on foot, and especially on horseback would be a nice preview of what to expect in Zelda U.
-The ability to switch between GameCube and Wii controls would be cool.
-Some sort of counter or marker system for Poes would be nice.
-Honestly, the improved skyboxes of Wind Waker make some hope they improve the ground textures of Hyrule field.
-I don't know if it would be possible, but I'd add more chests and things to find in Hyrule Field. Maybe this could be combined with refining the Dominion Rod quest in the end.

Other than that, I don't have man qualms with the game. It's one of the Zelda experiences I've enjoyed more than others. So I open up the question to you- what should be added/altered?

I think they have to offer both control options, Wii and GC. Being able to switch on the fly would be excellent.

I was thinking that making Hyrule Field more interesting would be a big improvement. You covered this.

Could they shoe-horn in some co-op features? Maybe an extra mode where one person uses the gamepad and one uses other controls? Some a-synchronous multiplayer that utilizes Wii U features?
How about an extra dungeon like Link's Awakening DX?

A bug detector would be good. I like collecting the bugs. Did they original game have some bug-detecting aid? I can't remember.

They'll probably make many of the tutorials at the beginning optional.  After Link Between Worlds and the upcoming Zelda U being open world, they've acknowledged the facts many aren't happy with all the hand holding and fetch quest they put in Zelda games like Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Skyword Sworld.

Basically when asked at the beginning if you want to heard the goats you can actually say, NO.  When the kids ask you to show off your skills before you can leave the woods you can say "**** off".

I also wouldn't be surprised if they lower the amount of light bugs you have to collect as a Wolf as well.  After what they did with the Triforce Quest in Wind Waker, lowering the amount of those light orbs you need to find from the bugs and only keep the obvious ones that you found in unique locations seems pretty likely.

Oh yeah, and they'll be a Hero Mode which right there will fix Twilight Princess biggest problem of being too easy.  Twilight Princess had a lot of great enemies and bosses but the damage they caused was pitiful and the game handed out hearts like candy.  Making it so the enemies can dish out real damage now and making the players unable to constantly heal themselves  will really improve the experience since now people will have to actually use all the moves they learn for combat instead of being able to just berserk your way through the game by just tanking hits and mindlessly slash every enemy.

I don't know if they'll make any changes to this one, they might just slap on an HD coat and get it out the door.

I like the opening of the game, but it does go on too long. If they found a way to speed things up without outright skipping it, that would be nice. The forced wolf segments are also very tedious, so I'd want those cleaned up and sped up as well. Those are my two main problems with this game.

The biggest change in Wind Waker HD was to streamline the part of the game everyone always complained about as the worst aspect of it, the Triforce hunt at the end. I imagine for this one they'd want to do the same to the opening few hours of the game.

If they do include both GC and Wii control schemes, I wonder how they will treat the "flipped world" that they used to make Link right handed for Wii?
My guess is they will release the Wii version and just map buttons to it.

I don't know what they can do to make the terrible first 2 hours of the game more bearable. Either way, I'm not interested at all in this game. Playing the Retroactive earlier this year reinforced that feeling.

I don't think the opening is that bad. I spent a lot of time there my first playthrough but I appreciated the world building.

Not so with Skyward Sword.

I imagine they'll use the Wii (or Wii U) controls only (as in no GameCube controller support), and the flipped Wii version of the game. Like it or not, Link is right-handed now. Even in the Wii U (NX?) Zelda trailer where he fires the bow, he holds the bow with his left hand and the arrow with his right. And the World of Nintendo action figures - he's left-handed on the box art, but he can only hold his shield with his left hand, making the toy right-handed. And yes, I have one of them on my desk at work.

I'll grant the intro to Twilight Princess was a tad long, but it wasn't that bad. Just make it so you only have to herd goats and fish once each, maybe get through the forest to the first temple faster. I mean, this is a 40-hour game, I was fine with it opening up at a deliberate pace (and ultra pumped to get a new Zelda at the time). But I was also totally fine with the opening of Skyward Sword, which gets bitched about, and didn't find the Triforce hunt in OG Wind Waker to be the worst thing ever.

I quite enjoyed the open-ended nature of the Triforce hunt, and I'm sad there was nothing like it in subsequent Zelda titles.

Twilight Princess is a fantastic game - if they're going to make any changes, they should make Ganondorf's death more spectacular. Zant (who is a really cool villain) had a better death scene.

I would hope they at least put Skyward Sword style controls (i.e., support for M+) into the game.

Not to mention, it would change the nature of combat and possibly break it. Highly unlikely, in my opinion.

That's true.  Enemies aren't really designed to take the M+ into consideration.  Would definitely require a major overhaul.

They'll probably just stick to GC controls.  Maybe add some kinda of Gamepad support?

How did I only find out about this now??

TP is far and away my favourite Zelda game.  This news pleases me immensely.  Aside from the implied graphical overhaul, the only difference I want are the motion controls to be ripped out with extreme prejudice.  Or at least the option to use buttons.

Mr Nickmitch above mentioned SS M+ controls being added.  While of course everyone has different opinions and mine is worth no more than his, if M+ controls were added and the only way of controlling the game then I won't by even considering it.  I was initially excited about SS and eager to try it out.  Then I did.  They ruined the game for me.  Completely.  So much so I will not ever be playing my copy again.

So yeah, my .02c.  If there are button controls I will be all over this game.

The game would have to be playable with the controller that comes in the box with the Wii U, aka the GamePad. There could be other options, but if this is indeed going to happen it's certainly going to include the ability to play with standard button controls.
