Zelda OoT (N64) vs. Zelda OoT (GCN)
« on: July 12, 2003, 04:20:54 PM »
I busted out the old N64 the other day, and was playing some of my favortie N64 titles.  I poped in both OoT and MM.  I know playing on a 53inch tv doesnt help, but man does low resolution suck.  Plus, I forgot how much slowdown there was.  I poped in OoT/MQ into my GameCube, havent played it since I got WW.  Is it just me, or does high-res do a lot for OoT?  The game looks so much sharper and cleaner.  Not to mention, a smooth framerate, even if it is smooth at 24fps.  I am very thankful, sometimes going back to low resolution games can really suck, so the bonus disk is a huge bonus in my book.  If any of you guys get a chance, go back and play OoT on your N64, you will be glad you got the bonus disk.  You did get the bonus disk, didnt you?

Ocarina/GC displays at a 30 fps stream while truly running at 20 fps.  Every 3rd frame is a duplicate of the 2nd frame, so only 2 out of 3 frames are unique, and 2/3 of 30 fps = 20 fps.

In Ocarina/GC, I didn't like how the analog stick doesn't respond for very small input angles.  This causes a miniscule delay before Link runs when you dash the stick to its farthest boundaries.

I've actualy had more slow-down problems with OoT on GCN than on N64, but I think it is related to my GB player because those problems didn't exist prior to my connecting said system. Almost every game has been experiening a slow-down since I hooked up the GB player. Anyone else have this problem?

I love Ocarina GC.  I can actually clearly see facial expressions, and I can see al kinds of detail I couldn't on the N64.

High-Res can make most old games look about 5x better.
