NINTENDO GAMES = BAD REPLAY VALUE
« on: July 12, 2003, 06:23:24 AM »
Nintendo makes great games if not the best. I loved Metroid, Zelda, Mario, Eternal Darkness, Star fox etc. My only problem is that these games never have a good reason to replay them after you beat them. It would be cool if you can unlock game modes or get super weapons etc. The only game i replayed for gamecube has been eternal darkness and i still didn't beat it the third time yet. My games are collecting dust because i have no more reasons to play them. They were great while they lasted but i have no interest to replay games like zelda because link is in his pajamas, thats not enough for me, why not make a flying boat that can go anywhere in the world or something that will make the second experience through the game just as pleasing as the first.

I didnt see any group games in your list. Mario Party 4 and SSBM have high replay value for me at least. Metroid Prime I have played through twice (norman and hard mode) So thats over 50 hours of game play, well worth my $50. I am currently playing through WW in my pajamas, this time I plan on collectine everything, including all the gallery statues which will take forever. If you want really high replay value go for a 4 player party game. Other games just play em and go back to them after several months and play em again, they will still be fun.

I'm not fond of replaying games, and I'm playing WW over for my second and a half game.  In my first game I have everything but a few heart pieces (which I intend to get) and in my second one I'm going to get all of the Nintendo Gallery statues.  Metroid Prime I would have played all the way through again (on Hard for 100%), but the first time I played it was on a good, bright television, whereas now all I have is my bad, dark television.  So I decided it'd be heck to play it again.  SFA I'm playing so I can wander the worlds instead of just fighting the boss (saved at wrong place).

Odd- I've played OoT at least 6 times, MM 3 times, SM64 3 times (twice actually getting all 120 stars), SMS twice, Wind Waker twice, Metroid Prime twice, and I've dropped at least 120 hours into SSBM- I think they have plenty of replay value.

i'm surprised to hear that
dont forget pikmin either- i played through the game 3 times, and also played the challenge mode many times
i think nintendo games have such good gameplay- that is what makes me want to play them over again
their games may not have the most secrets or goodies, but the gameplay in their games warrents extra play time on their games
i call the big one bitey.

Yeah, the gameplay itself is good enough for replay.  They don't have to throw in cheap extras.

Except for pajamas in WW.  But what could be more cool than pajamas?

Nintendo prides itself on making games that are fun to play and, therefore, replay.  Maybe you are more of a multi-player mode gamer.  I have played most of my Nintendo games many times each and still enjoy them.  I think Super Mario 64 is the epitome of this: I've played through and beat it many, many times, collecting all 120 stars, playing for speed, or just enjoying the scenery.  I couldn't disagree more with this thread's topic.

i had to have beaten super mario 64 like 16 times with everything...its always fun to go through it..one fday youll be like...im gonna beat sm64..and then you do(well maybe you play 3 hours one day and 3 hours the next day).
but yeah that games is so beaten. There havnt been alot of games i replayed. Really ill agree Eternal Darkness has mass replay value. I dont have pikmin...but i can see myself playign that over again. Iv rented it before and my friend let me borrow it.

I play most of my nintendo made games a few times through at least. Which is more than what I can say for most other games. I think nintendo-made games have an above average replay value. I mean, I still play AC for crying out loud. But maybe that's just because I'm a freak of nature or something.

= The exact opposite of the way I see things.

The only one of those games I have not played through at least twice is Mario.  I was rather glad to be through with that one by the end, actually.

I tend to agree with Loyd Christmas.  I find most Nintendo games don't have replay value for me.  Especially ED.  Playing it three times is a poor excuse of game design.  That game was not fun.

Also, I tend to find replaying games are not as fun as the first time, mainly because I already know what will happen ahead.

I find the Sega games I own have more replay value.  The sad part is I don't really have the time to replay a game.

Actually, I LOVED playing through it all three times- I played all three right after each other. The special ending wasn't a ploy to get you to play it multiple times, it was a reward for those who wanted to see how all 3 paths tied in together. I happened to love the game and thought it was very fun, and since you *didn't* think it was very fun, you're not one to pass judgement on the game design.

I played through it twice without TOO much trouble, but doing Max and Alex's chapters for the third time was positively torture-like.  I LOVE the chapter mode though, and I will frequently play Anthony, Karim, and Paul's stages.

Overall though, I veyr much enjoy replaying Nintendo's games.  I am still collecting figurines in Zelda, I am still going back and playing Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64, I played through Pikmin several times, etc.

mouse_clicker - what do you mean I'm not one to pass judgement on the game design?  I completed the game on the red path and couldn't be bothered to do the other two.  ED had good controls and the game design was okay, but overall, I found the game to be lacking the fun factor.  Just because a lot of people on this forum seem to love the game, I'm still entitled to my own opinion.

Yeah, I don't have ED, but I only have one statue left in Wind Waker.

Actually, I don't play games over much at all.  I've done so for Wind Waker for the statues, and Star Fox so I can explore all of the worlds instead of just sitting down in that templey fan place.  I seldom replay a game all the way over again.  I'll play parts of it over, or maybe just run around and have random fun, but it's an odd event when I replay a game over again completely.  I think the Gamecube is one of the first systems (that you could save your game, unlike most NES games) that I have replayed the games on much.

But as for having fun after I beat the game (not nevessarily playing it all the way through again), Nintendo is great.

Responding to the original poster ... Metroid, Eternal Darkness, and Zelda all have additional features and surprises when you play the game through multiple times.  Saying that those titles lack replay value is not entirely accurate.

I agree with Rick, especially since I'm on my second time through WW (would probably be 3, but my brother's borrowing it). I'm also on my FOURTH time through Prime, and I'm about halfway through my SIXTH run on ED

I think what he is trying to point out is that those little additions weren't enough of a reason to replay it. I tend to agree with him...but don't get me wrong. Those games are still my most favorite. I guess after playing online multiplayer games, I'm used to that and not repeating RPGs, etc.

Eternal Darkness has plenty of replay value. I am playing it again, this time on the blue route instead of green, and I have every intention to go back and play it again with the red route once I am done with it. I just wished I would have gotten in sooner.

THIS TOPIC = B.S.

I've always despised people who use all caps in their salacious, flame bait threads.  If you can't find replay value in your games, maybe it's your problem.  You obviously can't come up with a decent forum name.

Thrurthfully, the way you write reminds me of other, obsessive Nintendo bahsers who visit this thread.  Hmmmm

There is no reason to be calling the topic BS. Just because he isn't satsified with the replay value does not mean you can bash at him. And it surely isn't a reason to call him a Nintendo basher. I myself love Nintendo, but I also agree with him, but that doesn't mean you guys can't enjoy the replay value.

There really is no end to this discussion. It all comes down to wether or not you enjoy the replay value.

I have an extremely short attention span, and I hardly find myself finishing games rather than re-finishing them.  I haven't beat WW yet (I can't find the ghost ship chart!) and I'm about halfway through Metroid Prime and I've lost alot of interest in it.  I did beat Mario Sunshine, but I didn't collect all the stars yet.  I'm ordering ED so we'll see how that turns out Majora's Mask I got halfway through because I couldn't stand being timed, but I will beat that one once a get a new controller.  I found Pikmin very hard and haven't beaten it yet.

As for the games I do beat, I don't replay them, I usually run around having fun and doing whatever I want.  I've tried playing OoT over again, but I beat the Deku tree and stopped.  But I often go around playing the minigames and such.

I do think Nintendo games have alot of replay value, it's just some people, like me, don't feel the need to beat a game twice.

AiAi, I agree.  This forum should be like family.  The mods are the parents, the nice respectful forumers are the older brothers, and the ones that go around bashing people and saying naughty words should be kicked in the groin and sent to jail-I mean they should be punished and sent to their rooms for time out.
