mario party or monkeyball?
« on: July 10, 2003, 09:47:43 AM »
I am looking for a good party game to add to my collection.  So far I have narrowed it down to mario party 4 or Super Monkeyball 2 (haven't played the first one).  My friends and I dont really care about graphics, just good gameplay.
I have been looking at reviews of the two titles and it seems they have been getting the same scores (8 or 9 out of 10).  I needs someones input to help me make a wise decision on which title to choose.  Someone help!

I'd suggest Monkeyball.  Mario Party 4 is okay, but not near as good.

Go with Super Monkey Ball 2. Although I only rented it, I played it for like a week and it's fun. The multiplayer games are for the most part good (especially monkey fight), and it has a much better single player version than Mario Party I think. But keep in mind SMB 3 and Mario Party 5 should be coming out in several months.

imo, the 2 best party games are smash brothers, then timesplitters 2.  so, i would recommend those before mario party or monkey ball.  however, i'd choose mario party over monkey ball any day.

I heard super monkeyball 2 has a tennis multiplayer that plays extremely similar to mario tennis, is that true?  If it is I think I am sold on the idea of getting super monkey ball 2
Also, can anyone explain in-depth about the new mini games added to mario party, just so I can get a sense of what I am in for if I do purchase this game.
thanks in advance

I've owned both of the games and have to say I think smb2 is much better than mario party4. Hands down. Mario party is a little slower pace than monkey ball. mb2 also is a kinda crazy- zainy-insane game (did that make sense? I didn't think so).  Anyway I'd definitely get smb2.

Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 are probably my two favorite games on the Cube ever. I bought the first the week the Cube came out, and took it home for Thanksgiving, and that's all we did for the entire week. Mostly Monkey Target, which is incredibly addictive. My roomates used to play bowling constantly too. This Thanksgiving we rented Mario Party 4, and its pretty fun, you get to laugh at each other a lot, but the Single Player is fairly tedious. If you don't care, its's a great game, but Monkey Balls is better.

The tennis is similar to Mario Tennis, but I wouldn't say its as good. It's fun though, it just gets overshadowed by the insane amount of other great Mini-Games
